Ok so it's 6 units per Synapse unit then? Ok, 18 brood units per Assault group makes more sense now.

Guess I haven't read these new rules so closely as I thought.... :D

Hena - isn't the 25% based across the army not the formation?

Have the same problem with my swarms. Had to take a Harridan to fill up with gargyles. 18 is pretty lame for a swarm. Even a mechanized company can have much more units.

I'd like to add my weight behind this concern too - limiting the warrior led swarms to 18 is too restrictive.

A max of 8 per warrior would get my vote.

I agree 8 or maybe even 10. A Tyranid Warrior swarm needs to be between 24 and 30 units to be effective.

Last army composition I had to take a Dominatrix to get my broods into battle. Calculated with 24 termagaunts, 12 Hormas 12 Gargyles and 5 raveners. Over 1000pts brood in a 3000 pts game is really heavy to get on the field without taking 3+ Warrior swarms....and the formations were pretty small (even for me as a Marine Player :D ). Hope to get the battle report into electronical forms soon

Does the -2 for being mindless affect spawning?

Ok. I asked because i wasn't sure if the swarm rallies before spawning sets in or after :)

Swarms rally normally... but "mindless/instinctive" goes away at the start of the *NEXT* turn; so a swarm that is driven "mindless/instinctive" will suffer the -2 to its spawning attempt.

Ok. So -2 to all Initiative tests if MIndless which is redundant because they can do only Hold actions anyway, so the -2 effectively only applies to Spawning. Right?

"Hold" is still an action, and the formation needs to be activated, especially if you want to retain or something; so the -2 to activate isn't redundant, and, yes, it applies to Spawning attempts.

Blacklegion - basically the thinking here is that if you successfully take a Hold action with a Mindless swarm then you have the option of a retain whereas if you are forced to Hold after a failed activation you cannot retain.
