As to the size/DC; well, in the Imperial Armour books it's got 3 "Mass Points" and 5 wounds... that usually translates to around 3-4DC.  It is the "scout" Bio-Titan, I'd say, and compares relatively favourably with the Warhound at 250 points.

Ok, that makes sense.

But fearless would be a good addition, at least I think so. I agree that it is a fricking bio-titan and after all even the Warhound is fearless. The main benefit is preventing loss of DC from hackdowns. I always wanted to know how exactly how you hackdown part of a unit this big anyway.

Chroma:  Overall, it looks well-played with unlucky die rolls at crucial points really tanking your force.    This game was unfortunately about lucky die rolls more than tactics or the Nid army list.

I have very few criticisms on this one, just a couple of minor nits to pick that would have made rather little difference.  I still think your mix of broods is too expensive and should contain more Termagaunts for the FF, but it's not unworkable.  I would also have suggested placing the Marine Objective 2 closer to the centerline, possibly in the building ruins, so the Nids could get on it faster.  As it turned out, the objective placement didn't matter at all.

The Lictor placement was excellent, taking use of cover and preventing 2 formations that wanted to Sustain from doing so.  If they Devs hadn't gotten really lucky, those Lictors would have forced the Whirlwinds to double move or face an assault, and the Devs themselves would have been in range of an assault as well.

Likewise, the positioning of the central biotitan was good.  It would have been extremely valuable for assaults and support fire if the lucky crit hadn't taken it out.

I maintain that Sniper was never intended to apply in assaults and our group plays that it does not (if it's going to apply, all Sniper units need to be re-evaluated for point costs).  Even counting Sniper in assaults, it was pretty lucky, hitting with both Sniper attacks, and failing both saves.  Your Nexus swarm should have been around.  It's ability to place BMs and/or initiate some well-supported assaults would have made a serious difference.  At the very least, the swarm would have soaked up a lot more firepower.

If any one of the titan crit, Dev v Lictor, or Nexus swarm had gone your way, the game would have been much different.  It's obviously impossible to be completely sure, but adjusting for that it looks like the list is much closer to being balanced.

I'll give my opponent's response first: "Wow, it was like the Tyranids were actually playing EPIC!  That was fun!"

I think that is extremely telling, and an excellent sign that it's on the right track.

At most, I'd say DC-5 could be justified.

No more though, Chroma's right on this one.

To duplicate the IA version it should probably be:

4DC, fearless, invulnerable save... 275 points.

Thoughts?
