We still haven't nailed down what happens IF a brood ends an activation out of synapse range - do they go to ground there and then or not?
I also have another synapse-related query (sorry!) - if a swarm loses all its synapse creatures BEFORE it activates then it gets to activate as normal. Presumably now however it can spread itself out all over the place as long as it remains in normal coherency because there will no longer be a synapse range for that swarm. Have I understood this right?
Thanks again guys Lightbringer

Hi,
One thing buggers me : Having to constantly check for formation coherencey AND synapse range is a pain when you are dealing with big swarms and multiple synapse creatures (infantry swarms). It takes hours to move the swarm, and a march order sees the other player go and watch a movie while you constantly measure back and forth, between units moving 15, 20 and boing 5 cm from their neighbours and 15 from a synapse....
Unless I got it wrong, all those complications started only because we wanted to give some flexibility to the Synapse nodes.
I would personnaly go for something way simpler :
1 - All units in a swarm must remain under normal coherency. 2 - During rally phase, all broods not in synapse range go to ground. 3 - Synapse nodes are not affected by coherency rules.
Voila...

Jaldon has answered this over on the SG forum. Basically nothing happens to broods who find themselves out of synapse range (for whatever reason) until the start of the next turn or immediately after an assault.
This means that if a common brood swarm finds itself without a synapse creature at the start of its activation (say it was sniped) it operates as normal.

Hena- where is the rule that states that brood creatures must remain within 15cm of a synapse creature during their turn?
All I can find is a throw away line that says a swarm consists of the synapse creature(s) and any brood creatures within 15cm. (epicomm version section T1.40 paragraph 5).
It implies that brood creatures have to be within 15 cm of a synapse but doesn't explain what would happen if they are out of synapse radius (paagraph 11 talks about removing them at the beginning of the turn and P10 about removing them after an engage action)

Hena - if its been taken out on purpose then we are back to the brood cordon - lets hope its an oversight and that it will be put back in. Maybe it is being reworded.
If it does go back in though we still need to know what happens to broods that break this rule for whatever reason - surely they must go to ground.

Hena, there is a big difference between broods who lose their synapse creatures as a result of enemy actions and those broods who 'lose' their synapse creatures by choosing to move away from them (more than 15cm away) - nothing in 7.1 says they can't do this (as long as they remain within 5cm from another unit) and it is therefore open to abuse.
