LV is like a command unit for the nids right?

as an LV it would be a single model much like a hive tyrant right? Infantry would be 3 to a base for warriors?

I'm sure you have noticed that all stands in E:A generally fall into one of three sizes. Inf for standard infantry, LV for light vehicles and AV for Armoured Vehicles (Plus WE for War Engine and the aircraft and spacecraft designations). That size catagory determines what can shoot at them (plus some other rules). Inf get hit by AP weapons, AV get by AT weapons and LV get hit by both making them more vulnerable. There is a split on what Warriors should be as similarly sized units in other armies (such as Ogryns and Ork Nobz (they have mega armour)) are Inf but a while ago there was concern over Warriors hiding in big gaunt formations (as both were Inf) so all the medium class Tyranids were standardised as LV so they could be picked out of formations. Raveners became rather popular due to the ability to shield the warriors and because they could spawn in the 9.x series lists (latest 9.2.1).

Now there are multiple lists, some have LV Warriors and some have Inf. Strictly speaking LV warriors would be individuals while Inf are 3-7 to a stand. Most people put 3 on a base and use them for LV or Inf depending on the list they choose.

just a quick update, I have been able to find on the net and trade etc...and Im one Dominatrix away from a 1500 point 2nd edition Nid army for my son.

:)

I did buy some dark realm figs for warriors (vampire beasts), those have been impossible to come by at a ok price.

that being said, he wants to play 2nd edition, so Ill wean him into EA later, it is a little more complex and since he likes 2nd edition, I wont mess with what is working. :)

thanks everyone for the help.

I put this is a different spot but have had no one answer it yet so thought Id add it here with all the help I got last week.

"Hey everyone

My son and I are playing 2nd edition (and I just bought EA so hoping to move to that one day) but for now the simplicity of 2nd edition keeps him engaged.

He is building a Tyranid army from the Hive War box set, and reading on some of the units it says they are a "Knight" I think it was the Hive Tyrant was something like he moves like infantry but is treated as a knight.

what is the special rule on a knight? Is this something from a white dwarf rule added or something? I know they mentioned knights in the 2nd edition rulebook, but dont see any rules on knights in the book."

thanks

steve

I'd post this question in the NetEpic section of the forum. NetEpic is a direct evolution of the 2nd Edition rules, so some of the players there may be able to help.
