Sorry, yes I meant remove MW and go with ignore cover. It's supposed to 'wash' over terrain and the like, I can't imagine units taking cover from something like that. As to the MW, I'd prefer that the bugs have a very smaller number or no shooty MW attack. They should be extremely hard hitting in assaults, not at shooting no matter how small the range.

Thought though, maybe the breath could give extra MW attack in FF?

I'd be in favor of this too. Ignore Cover is appropriate for a "flamer-type" weapon.

We don't need the flame template in Epic.

Sad :(

Wellif you want to see a real working flamethrower of WW2 used against the Japanese then look here (skip the last half if you don`t want to see burned corpses):

The flamethrower tank is the more interesting bit for us. See how everything between the tank and the maximum range of the flamethrower catches fire?
Nothing seen of an arc of flame wich only hits the targeted area.

Nice find!

But that would be a FF, ignore cover attack... now, mount that thing on a firing platform 30 feet in the air, with an extremely high pressure pump and you'd get a different "pattern".  The flamer template is about 25cm long... isn't that almost a kilometre in EPIC's sliding scale?

Are we for keeping the rule because it's necessary or are we for keeping the rule because it's "cool"?

I thought the whole point of miniatures games was the coolness factor. Anyway, it comes with the other two templates, it's implied in the rulebook that it would be used in later armies, it's used in two official armies (yeah yeah, same unit, but still), it looks pretty darn neat and gives a completely different feel. So why the constant trying to remove it?

And the amusing thought of a Great Unclean One covering several city blocks in vomit via that template should be the main reason for including one in a chaos list.

There are alot of rules that are kept becuase they are "cool" "fun " or "necessary" or all of the above..

Take the squat land train. It loses 5cm movement to unhook a blown up car. Why? Who knows. Fluffy and makes sense? ya.

The moment we try and abolish things that aren't necassary and only "cool" is a time where we play red army vs blue army with exactly the same gear.

Thats my take on the matter.

I'd say keep it in simply because something that has a VERY small impact on the game has already taken up this much forum space for little reason. ;)

I think the Nid list should go and just use Orks to counts as Nids...
Less special rules, no need to add more stuff to Epic.

What? We haven't got that far yet?  :;):

The French version of the Tyranids is actually based off of that premise!

I would like to keep the template in the list as well, it gives the Tyranids another unique element to their army and although I hardly ever really use it in a battle it's still a good option for causing a few casualties in the shooting phase.

Well, the Flame Template rule is simple enough, and it requires few words, why don´t you remove the spawning and synapse-swarms rules which greatly slow the game and are far more complicated

The rules designer purist in me (I'm a computer programmer by trade) says it's not necessary. Remove any unnecessary crap and ditch it.

The fluffy user experience person in me says it looks really cool. Deal with any issues and keep it.

The fluffy user experience guy wins out, so keep it!
