Sorry didn't make mysself clear enough.

I meant that they are the most available model on the market. I have 50-60 odd stands of termagents and only 5 Hormagents. I would play with more hormies but I just don't have them.

So we're back to proposing fixed formation sizes, for example buying common broods in groups of 5.

I'm not entirely against that.

Neither am I.

I can't remember who suggested something similar to the normal/big/'uge structure of the ork list, but I like it.

We should not take current availability into account at all.

I'm all for buying large broods of nids rather than per stand, the hivemind works in bulk, not in small transactions.

Well that is what we were told when the mutation rule was removed.

On the FF front, my 40K nid army can and has out shot Tau and guard opponents. ?True it has all ben at short range, but that is why our guys have FF but no ranged weapons.

OK, so following current costs, we get:

4 bases of Termagants - 60
4 bases of Hormagaunts - 60
4 bases of Gargoyles - 100
4 bases of Raveners - 120

I chose 4 bases because that's what will be included in any future plastic boxed set release.

So, Termagants go to 80 points? 70?

What, exactly, does this accomplish/rectify?

Just that the presence of Common broods will be in multiples of four in starting swarms?  I'm not sure what the point of this is.

It just allows point adjustments that aren't 20-30% at a pop.  Instead of having to go from 15 points per model to 20 points per model (33% increase), you can go to, say 17.5 points per model by doing 4 units for 70 points.

I think that is the whole point (well that is the point I am aiming for).

So when the hivemind organises an attack to gathers together a load of synapse and starts thoughing swarms of gaunts at them. ?The gaunts are bred in batches (here 20 per batch) and are handed off in such batches.

Being birthing buddies the gaunts stay together when the army is organised.

So instead of having 3 warriors 12 termies and 9 hormies you have 3 warriors ?3 broods of termies and two broods of hormies (and one less overall in the swarm).

During the game spawning represents survivers of broods being found, after the rest of their birthing got shot,. blown up or trodden on.

Games mechanic wise it will help with the pricing of the swarms since we can say 4 stands of termies are worth 70pts, rather than each stand is worth 17.5pts

EDIT: Damn it Nealhunt beat me to it.  To much rambling I guess.

Okay, that makes sense now.

Individual units would still be spawned back, not groups?

Hmmm... definitely have to think about how to word this to allow multiples.  I like this idea.

I assume individuals would be spawned back, otherwise it would be too hard to get anything (4 spawn points for some gaunts).

The lovedrops could go back to being mycetic spores in which all of a brood are returned, or even held of the boartd until you need them.

So, something like this:

Common Broods
A minimum of 25% of points must be spent on Common Broods, any number of Common Brood groups may be purchased

Gargoyle Flock - Four Gargoyle units - XX points
Hormagaunt Cluster - Four Hormagaunt units - XX points
Ravener Cluster - Four Ravener units - XX points
Termagant Cluster - Four Termagant units - XX points

Call them 'broods', as in 'Hormagaunt Brood', 'Gargoyle Brood', etc? The army section is 'broods' after all!

Individual units would still be spawned back, not groups?

Of course.

"Cluster" and "Flock" are synonyms of "Brood"...

Just to mix it up so it isn't "Brood. Brood. Brood. Brood and Spam. Spam. Spam and beans. ?Brood, Spam and beans. ?And Spam."

EDIT - the more I look at the word "brood", the funnier it looks!  *laugh*

It makes it easier to understand the list, and it's logical.

Would people want to see Uncommon Broods organized in "groups" as well?
