I think the "Shoot the big ones!" cry is to counter the impulse to "Shoot the close ones!", so that, while the "regular" troopers are blazing away at Gaunts, the "weapon teams" are firing at... well, the big ones!  *laugh*

So how does one go about getting fluff published?

First you have to be a writer employed or contracted by GW... *laugh*

"SHOOT THE BIG ONES" is printed in bold letters in the "Tyranids" section of the Imperial Infantryman's Uplifting Primer.

(It also says Lictors are easily confused by flashing lights...  :laugh: )

There's also "Fall Of Malvolion" short story by Dan Abnett.

While it's got some interesting stuff, the Tyranid invasion seems a little... fast... with the ecosystem being radically transformed, and Bio-Titans showing up, in less than 24 hours.

Well in th enovel "Warriors of Ultramar" it didn't took remarkably longer to create bio-tanks and bio-titans too :)
