Gargoyles were still being used by tyranids in the Warrior of Ultrimar book (though I can't remember how old it is) as AA.

Though I like the idea of using existing gargoyles as AAA, I do see Nealhunts poiunt on that they will find it hard to flap up to engage a strafing jet, yet alone a Maraurder on a high altitude bombing run.

Not a problem IMO - epic has numerous abstractions. If a swarm has gargoyles you can easily say it also has a few zooming about on AA duty at various altitudes.

Just I would like to mention Chaos Demon furies have AA6+ 30cm "Aerial Assault" attack  (like Gremlins?)
Though Furies are Appendix, not in the tournament list.

Then I can imagine AA Gargoyles, but I feel suiciding attack is slightly complicated, or too strong if not suiciding.

On the other hand, I love an idea of Big-Floating-AA spore mines, because it is charactaristc, and well reflects newest 40k(Forge World) models, and easily made.

And I think Big floating spore sacks are not so "Passive".
They are fast attack choice, and can fly against planes (not just waiting) in WH40k Forge World experimental rules.

Any one know where I can find major "AA Spore Idea"?
I'd read many post, but there are so many variations...(Killable, unkillable, or terrain,templates...)

I'm working on that right now, thank you for your patience.

Well spotted maruma!

I like this:

Furies
Type Speed Armour Close Combat Firefight
Infantry 30cm 6+ 4+ -
Weapon Range Firepower Notes
Claws and Fangs (base) Assault Weapons
Aerial Assault 30cm AA6+
Notes: Wings (count as Jump Pack). Invulnerable Save. Scouts. Costs one point to summon. The aerial
assault attack represents the Furies flying over to mob enemy aircraft as they approach. Even though it is
not a ranged flak attack as such, it is treated as one in the game.

Nice one Maruma! Well done!

So now we have a precedent, a working unit type and no special rule needed ... wheeeeeeeeeeee!

Well, it *is* in the Collector's Models, so there's probably been no playtesting done on it.

30cm seems like an awfully long range for them.

So, I'm going to ask: has anyone else playtested the original proposal yet?   ???

Haven't playtested the orginal but its only been a couple of days :)

I like the idea of giving this Fury idea a go this Sunday.... maybe we should actually give it a go as a baseline to work from - because it is something already listed, and also because I agree with nealhunt that the original ability listed in this thread will be too weak (ie you are better off just soaking the damage rather than using the AA ability).

Orks get 2 AA6+ at 30cm for 35 points. One AA6+ at 30cm for 25 points might not be that far off (though unstoppable and spawning has to be factored in). I do like the idea of removing the gargoyles if they actually hit though.
