Yes, that is a good way to start. Playability before fluff. :)

Is it worth starting a Carnifex specific thread and a Trygon specific thread?

My Venom Cannon fexes in 40K smash through tanks with ease once they get into range - S10 and 2 shots more than make up for 'glancing only'.

But I'd also rather not see the fex over 35pts, which is a nice mid point between brood creatures and assualt spawn, a while I'd like to see the Epic Carnifex behave approxinate to its 40k counterpart, equally i'd like to see it remain appropriate to its 35 point cost.

So I'd be prepared to run with AP6+/AT6+, although AT5+ no AP might also be worth considering.

40k counterpart, 'beefed fex' is great, but it costs more than land raider...
With 35pts, you can't have everything. :;):

My beef fex (mmm stake) comes in at about 260pts, my big gun fex at about 150pts and the other two are 114pts each (gotta love elite fex ?:blues: ). ?An average of 160pts each, though I have no idea where this puts them compared to other dreads.

EDIT:  Here is a crazy(ier) thought.  Should fex have a TK(1) atack in close combat (as their basic attack)?

I know it sounds crazy, but it isn't really.  Even a pure gun fex without a strength upgrade will dish out 3 attacks at S9, ignoring armour of all troops and having +2D6 armour pen against vehicles.

Coupled with a CC 0f 3 + or 4+ this truly represents what they can do to tanks.

No. Apart from the fact that we are trying to keep these cheap - it isn't justified anyway.  Plenty of other weapons comparable in 40k terms are not TK - eg dreadnought CC weapons, terminator chain fists,  melta weapons. Plus carnis have a hard time hitting vehicles that are still mobile.

Well it was only a curved ball (or whatever the sporting analogy is).  At least I can have a Titan killer fex in my collectors model section. :D
