I decided to try out an infantry-heavy Tyranid force for this army, while also playtesting some of the new stats we've been hashing up.
Bio-Titan stats thread.
AV stats thread.
So, this was my army:
Synapse:
1x Dominatrix 1x Harridan 3x Tyranid Warriors 1x Hive Tyrant
Brood:
25x Termagants 20x Hormagaunts 4x Gargoyles
Uncommon Brood:
3x Biovore 6x Carnifex 2x Haruspex 4x Exocrine 1x Zoanthrope
Independant:
1x Hierophant with 2x Bio-Cannons 6x Genestealers 3x Lictors
My enemy's army was:
1x Warlord Titan with Quake Cannon, Rocket Launcher, Gatling Blaster & Volcano Cannon. *
4x Whirlwinds
4x Whirlwinds
1 x Devestator detachment with Librarian, 2x HB Razorbacks, 2x Lascannon Razorbacks.
1 x Devestator detachment with Rhinos
1 x Landspeeder detachment with 5x LS Tornados.
1 x Bike detachment with 1 attack bike.
1 x Terminator detachment with Supreme commander.
* Titan weapons taken from the AMTL weapons list, cost 850 points.
I didn't make a comprehensive tally of the game, but suffice to say, by the end of turn 3 I was left with around 7 models, and had only claimed BTS (His Warlord Titan's reactor detonated after a final last-ditch assault).
He claimed Blitz, BTS, Defend & TSN Pass, and had lost almost nothing in his army, just a few Terminators & a Warlord Titan.
I claimed BTS and had lost almost everything.
I'm not sure whether I should be drawing any concrete suggestions from this game or not, since the army mismatch (lots of templates, mobility & decent FF versus an infantry horde), and some dumb tactics on my behalf may have obscured any percieved imbalances.
That said, I did feel that the Bio-Cannons in the list somewhat underperformed considering how much I'd invested in them.
- Bio Cannon 2x / 45cm / AP4+/AT5+ / Ignore Cover
I'd propose this change to AP3+/AT4+.
At S10 AP3 in 40k I do not feel this to be in contravention to the background either.
Also, at 500 points, the Dominatrix (Having lost her Breath weapon) is possibly over-priced and / or underpowered.
However, as I said, the battle went so horribly for me that I hesitate to draw too many conclusions from it, other than to note that infantry-based Tyranid armies don't seem overly-effective in my hands.
