Jaldon - I'm wondering why you think that raveners make good shields for carnie broods? (1) Ravaners being LV take fire that would be hitting the Carns, as Carns cost 50pts and Ravs 20pts it is a cheap way to avoid lost Carns. (2) It costs 3pts to re-spawn a Carnie, and 1pt to re-spawn a Ravaner, right now, so it is much easier to keep that screen up. (3) You can take more Assault Carnies as the Ravaners will help fend off FFs. (4) Ravaners can infiltrate in the assault right up to those important support units, like Demolishers, Carnies can't. Given more time I probably could come up with a couple more, but does this help? Answer: Typo (2) Ravs will die 3 times as fast to AT as Carnies. Also AP will kill ravs. Unless you are going to spend many turns spawnning chances are that they are all killed before you get to the enemy. Also most armies that I've played has had better AP fire than AT fire and nothing protects the Ravs in that situation.

Answer: Sure they do, but they only have to 'be there' long enough for the Carns to get stuck in. Too many players of Nids refuse to march, when it is silly not to. Also they have some problem pushing them out there on a double move. The Nid army is not for a timid commander, it's get out there and get stuck in as quickly as possible.

Also spawning doesn't stop the swarm from moving forward, also if you use back to back formations, as in the list I presented, then the advance never stops as the Carn swarms continually move through each other. This 'rolling advance' is really hard to stop.

(3) Gargoyles IMHO are better at (3) and (4) as they move faster and give equal FF to ravs. Only they are not killed by AT fire and cannot be bullet shields to Carnies.


Answer: As the subject of the question was the use of Ravs as a bullet shield for Carns this doesn't apply.

(4) IMHO Haruspexes are best choice to support carnies in CC

But IMHO I can get two Carns for the price of one Spex, and I'd rather spend my points on more mass in the swarms.

However, not everybody fields the same stuff, nor gets the best out of everything. It is the beauty of Epic-A, most stuff is balanced across the list enough that what you feel comfortable with is often a good enough army to win battles with.

It also means that not everybody is going to achieve the same results as you do using that same list.

So differing opinions are good.
