The rules for participating are below, if you have questions please post them here.

Dates

All of these are subject to change (and likely will).

  • Entry Submission Ends - 2359 UT, January 3, 2021
  • Voting - 1200 UT, Januray 10, 2021 (or whenever I have a chance to post)
  • End of Voting - one week later

Categories

For the purposes of these categories, Epic models include models from any 6mm sci-fi manufacturer, 6mm conversions or 3D printed models.

  • Best Single Model - Any single Epic vehicle, aircraft or stand of troops.
  • Best War Engine - Any single Epic war engine (titan, super-heavy tank/aircraft, etc.).
  • Best Formation - Eight or more Epic war engines, vehicles, aircraft or stands of troops (Epic war engines count as three each towards this count).
  • Best Battleforce - Three or more formations as described in the Best Formation category (24 units, effectively).
  • Open - A diorama or terrain piece
  • Adeptus Titanicus - Any model(s) from the Adeptus Titanicus line
  • Aeronautica Imperialis - Any model(s) from the Aeronautica Imperialis line

Entering

You do not have to be a member of these boards to enter (you do to vote however). Just e-mail your entry to epicompetitions [at] gmail [dot] com.

Please include the following:

  • Your name, and TacComm member name if applicable
  • A 1600x1200px image of your entry in .jpg format
  • The title for the image

Entries should be models that you've completed during the past year and not previously entered in an EpiComp competition. Entries already posted here or elsewhere on the internet can still be entered.

Voting

Voting will take place on these boards, so you'll have to be a member here in order to vote. I'll break down each category into heats and the winners of each heat will go onto the final for a second round of voting.

Each entry has to go in one category, but you can enter them as many times as you like. Your best unit/WE can be in the best formation, and the best formation can be in the best battleforce.

Woot! For the first time in many years I've painted a load of Epic models this year and so can enter.

I suggested similar to this on facebook but didn't get a response. Could the competition please interpret 'Epic' more broadly to also include newer 8mm scale models as also be Epic as many players now do?

The competition has separate categories for Adeptus Titanicus and Aeronautica models but apparently considers them not to be Epic as Dave said on facebook such models can't be entered in the formation or battleforce categories.

This makes me sad as I've spent most of this year painting up an Epic Tau army including a large air contingent of 14 of the the plastic AI planes. I'd like to enter a photo of half a dozen of my of 8mm Tigersharks deploying 6mm Gun Drones over the jungle or a battleforce shot of the whole army. I've never played Aeronautica but bought the models to use in Epic and consider the 8mm models part of my Epic army.

It's not just me either; using 8mm models for Epic is fairly common these days - I've seen several people at UK Epic tournaments using armies that are some or all 8mm.

Sure 8mm models are bigger than 6mm but the original 80s era had titans and aircraft that were more like 3-4mm scale so Epic is already open minded about scale and has seen similar scale increases in the past.

I've seen a number of newer players 3d print whole Epic marine armies to use to play Epic but have them 8mm so they're in the same scale as their titans and aircraft. Are such not still Epic models? Should they not be allowed in the competition rather than excluded?

There's been some creep over the years from third parties too and newer Vanguard human models are 7 or 7.5mm tall. Should these not still be counted as being Epic still despite being larger than 6mm? If an Epic player enters a photo of 7mm Vanguard drop troopers alongside 8mm GW Valks should the competition really not allow this?

Hmm, can we drop calling it 8mm though? I mean, Titanicus is just 1/4th of 40k. 40k is all over the place anyways. It's a scale in which normal Space Marines are smaller than Necromunda gang members and Rogue Trader crew members.

If we stick with a consistent '1/4' scale, or a 'true scale 6mm', you'd have Space Marines that are about 8mm tall and regular humans that are around 6mm.

On the other hand, people can do with their stuff whatever the heck they want, we shouldn't restrict them just because they see stuff differently. Which is ironic considering me demanding to drop calling it 8mm scale. :P

Yeah, but in this case i think they are talking about the ones being printed in around 8mm supposedly to fit with AT18 and AI2, or the 8mm Marines 10-11mm tall, so the category more or less fits in this competition.

Hmm, but GW stated that a Space Marine was 8mm, now people are making 8mm scaled humans with 10mm Space Marines. oh well, if they want to do that fine...but Titanicus and Aeronautica Imperialis seems to be based on 8mm Space Marines and regular humans of about 6mm.

Question for the pic - does it need to be one pic from a single angle, or can it be made up of several pics showing different angles?
