Gotcha! So the recommended/'balanced' values are around 120-150 then? If 90's about 50GBP, then I guess with just one or two more packs we can take that to 120-150. So maybe... 80GBP for a "full" army? That's not bad at all. Thanks for the details!

Thanks Blip I think we've developed an understanding of what we mean but that sometimes doesn't translate to people reading it for the first time.

I've changed them to Maniple Main and support

Thanks, think i get it now.

For clarity, i am right in thinking the basic “formation” is a Company (and they operate as one on the table). The Novan Elite call their companies “centuries”, and each century is made of min 3 core maniples and other support maniples if desired.

Doomkitten I don’t really recommend a set value as each person has their sweet spot, we have playtesters using small forces whereas others are playin 300 up. It depends how much time you want to put into your game and how much time your gaming group has to play. If I was to run a tourney I’d go for 150 Power with a max of 6 Activations.

Blip, yes that’s it buddy

Thanks for your questions it has highlighted an area we need to add extra clarification

Fair enough. Just curious as there's usually a value that testers and writers have in mind when they're writing units, scenarios, etc. Just about every game has values beyond (or below) which formations can sometimes begin to break and values where a good force can be built with enough flexibility to be truly interesting without going overboard. Helps me try to sell it as a gaming/purchase option if I can bang numbers as an example.

Thanks, again. :)

Tim and I have been playtesting generally between 250 and 300 points. That's looking to be the sweet area for a 2 hour game. But we've also played it at lower points values and it works fine.

It's a really great rules system and the activation sequence / orders system is very suitable for tactical play.

I sourced my MDF bases from eBay.

The other half of the main writers here. SquggleAmp can have the beauty I'll have the wealth ;)

From testing I'd say that you need to have a game of minimum 6 activations as any smaller number can end up feeling one sided. When things go wrong you can feel that everything goes wrong at once and there is no way back.

Larger games give you the feeling that whilst part of your battle plan is going wrong you are still able to recover from it.

As you can see it all depends on what you want to play. Play testing has shown it works at a low level but the bigger the force the bigger the fun. The Power cost is likely to increase when we launch the planned expansions as people will want more of a combined arms game. As E&C states for a 2 hr game look towards 300 Power with a minimum of 6 activations.

To give an idea of the sheer scale of the game, my latest 298pt army list contained:

Quote:
10 High Command Squad Members
270 Power Armour Affray Elites
50 Heavy Armour Siege Elites
12 Drake Heavy Support Tracks + 12 operators
12 Gladiator Walkers

9 Trojan Transport APC's
1 Battlemaster Command Tank
18 Hailstorm Artillery Vehicles
6 Hammer Tanks
18 Scorpion Tanks
9 Guardian Tanks
6 Guardian Sniper Tanks
6 Mauler Heavy Tanks
9 Challenger Superheavy Tanks

342 infantry models, 12 mechs, 12 support guns, 73 tanks, and 9 super heavy tanks.

Which in game terms was split up into ten activations on 40 MDF bases, and took ~2 hours 15mins to fight the game.

You should post up some battle reports! A photo of the armies used (even if not painted yet) would help give an idea of scale.

I won't be getting into it myself, as painting my EpicA armies will keep me busy for the next decade or more but I wish you all the best with it :)

I'll try to at some point, but I'm really busy at the mo.

This pic shows two 300 point armies about to start a game.

My mostly unpainted army on the left, Tim's mostly painted army on the right.

Liking the sound of this game.

Quick question about rule mechanics, looking at the data cards most units have a unit range of double their speed, except for some infantry units. With most ranges extending to 60cm. Is this a deliberate game mechanic?
