Hrmm that dark ops stuff is pretty cool. I am not familiar with them till now. Doesn't look.like those floors/corridors are a thing yet. Still, something like that would be pretty rad.

I'd need to find somebody with some good photoshop/rendering skills, I might commission my girlfriend to do that.

But I do wonder if metal miniatures would work with such a boxed game, especially since the market has moved on to plastic regarding board games. I'm not talking only about the units on the board (Novan troops, etc), but also of 'markers' so stuff like doors, computer consoles, and other objectives. But that's a separate thing to ponder.

@Jimmy: those floors are real, check it out:

You mean Vanguard's shop or any shop for that matter? The designs by Dark Ops are now part of Mantic's latest Kickstarter project which has already brought in more than $200k and still has 20 days to go. :O

Nowhere on their site was that obvious. They just had a nice picture of that painted up mdf. nice to now know where that's part of and (presumably) going to be sold in the future. :D

cheers.

And they too started out as a proxy company, well more or less. Their whole Kings of War range was a Warhammer proxy range, especially now that Warhammer Fantasy Battles is gone. Their Warpath range filled the proxy need for those who have a nostalgia to Squats and 2nd edition Orks. But it's nice to see they're slowly moving into their own little setting, fleshing that one out more. :)

One thing for the Vanguards shop or 6mm sci fi in general. Fort walls. I know ben designed some many years ago, but now sadly they will not suit the round bases. I have had a look on the webs and the only company i can find doing decent looking walls is a company called Gamecraft minatures. No way i am ordering state side with the postage involved in resin walls.

Would any of the Vanguard terrain suppliers be looking into this in the future as this would also tie in with breaching ;) walls must also support round bases though ! Even in mdf would be nice maybe ?

unless their is a uk seller i have missed ?

Regards epic

These are great, but expensive if you want a complete fort.

I think they should try to figure out a way to bring production costs down, or lower their mark up. But considering that most independent outfits in the wargaming branch generally have really low mark ups (normally in other branches retail it's about 300% or 400% of the production costs), I can assume the reason why the models are so expensive is that their printing and casting costs are rather high.

Problem with terrain is that it's generally a secondary issue. Most hobbyists want to invest greatly in their armies/gangs/forces/etc, and terrain is less important, especially if it can also be scratch built. So terrain becomes one of those investments many aren't willing to spend that much money on, making something like Boneshop's amazing models (because lets face it, they really rock!) difficult to sell, especially in a niche market that's already very small (compared to lets say 28mm scaled gaming).

Dr.Gore The boneshop stuff looks amazing, cheers for the link and glad to see them selling it online after the their kickstarter, however as said price wise its just crazy, fantastic looking yes, but no way i would be paying that kind of money for terrain no matter how nice it is.

Dakka, Battlescene could surely do the fort walls ? say a decent long rectangle wall section say 10 to 15 long, make sure the top has those square tile bit pattern burnt in to add a bit of texture and then just lots of the little wall support sections to glue on like the ones on the other buildings. This will keep it gothic looking if people choose to say paint the wall supports gold or bronze and the wall grey, and for the non gothic lovers they can just paint it gun metal or grey. ?

All you would then have to do is supply a little square end blanking bit to glue in the end if people choose not to build a continues fort wall. ? then just a simple gate house ;)

Cheap and cheerfull in mdf but would look good when painted and i think you would sell a lot of these imo ;)

Do not sell it as a kit, sell it in individual parts, so people could add more wall supports depending on what lok they are after, also you would not need corner sections as it would connect side to side using the end blanking square ;) Quick to design, simple to sell, get them in the shop Dakka ;D
