Also these strip bases are the start of a whole range we hope to produce

bases look like a great product at a great price, but please could some future ones be made from 1mm sheet as well?

got my novan elites packed away atm, but i assume they are on 0.8mm discs to match those bases?

those character chevron bases look like a neat idea

We used 0.8mm as that was the material thickness Fenris games used for there ply bases. I've had no problems with them myself and different manufacturers of figures don't always have exactly the same depth bases on there models. That being said I can see your point and actually it would be cheaper to produce bases from a thicker material as the thinner the sheeting the more expensive it is. I'll have a talk with +psypher+ about it.

I like the character chevron bases too.

Only certain plastics can be put through a laser cutter, some give off toxic fumes, other plastics melt rather than cut. Unfortunately, John was right and certain plastics/acrylics cost a LOT more than others and 1mm is one of those. A good quality 1mm laser-able acrylic or plastic material actually costs more than the expensive 0.8mm acrylic used.

Heres a new plastic I'm trialing that shows a nice flush fit with the plastic GW marines, this is 0.8mm thickness also.

Honestly, I have used the two-part Fenris bases from thin ply. I have stuck just about any manufacturer into those. No problems whatsoever. The result deal-broke me all the way to winning a category of the forum painting contest. Sometimes it is easier to ask rather than assume a problem.

Thanks Nitpick as you say the fenris bases made of the same thickness material have not caused any problems but Apocs posts (unintended i'm sure) here and elsewhere have caused a lot of negative feedback for this new produce. :(

I have sold some mind you so it's not all bad news for these.

Sorry dakka – was trying to suggest an option for future bases to get more customers, not deter current ones … :(

Only posted about it here! anything elsewhere is from someone else …

If 0.8mm is a hard technical limit then fair enough, that aside it just seemed like an odd choice, but makes more sense in context :) I'm probably more picky than most – i've made a lot of my own bases, so needs to be 'just what i want' to make me pay for convenience! As I say, looks like a good product in general and priced enticingly.

You could try it as a marketing point maybe … suggest any tiny gap that may result lets modellers get basing/sand paste on the base without covering the mini's feet?

40x15mm bases sounds just excatly like what I want for my army. If/when they come Im gonna snap up some of those (I want the entire army to be based on the same bases). Great news!

Again, really appriciate all the work you put into helping the community!

Apoc, kyuss, no worries guys you are entitled to your opinions and I can take constructive criticism. I must doubly apologies to Apoc for implying that he posted elswhere when he did not it was a mix up sorry mate my bad.

I'm always interested in ideas for new products so please keep them coming.

Ronnie the 40x15 bases will be produced as soon as we have a viable material to manufacture them with the acrylic is rather expensive but we hope to find a reasonably priced plastic that will be usable in the cutter.

Aparrantly 1mm thick material is hard to come buy and very expensive too so it looks like we will need to stick to the 0.8mm thickness or not bother at all.

Cheers guys

If 1mm plastic is so expensive have you looked at veneer wood? Remember making quite a number of models with this at uni and don't think it was all that expensive and comes in large sheets.

Hey Blip wood is a good idea and i've used fenris games ply bases no problem but most people seem to want a plastic type material for bases so that's what we went for.

If customers would be happy with wooden bases then we can of course look in to that possibility.

Thoughts on this anyone?

I use 2mm MDF bases for all my vehicles, so infantry bases from 1mm sheets would suit me just fine. Same design as the current acrylic ones, 1mm solid base, and a 1mm top sheet with cut outs.

Just thinking outside the box a little here...
(And I'll preface this by saying I know nothing about laser cutters or the process)
How about for the bottom sheet you have an option for flexible magnetic sheeting, giving you a magnetic bases option. They are great for transport as your models stick fast to a magnetic sheet, metal box or whatever. I currently mount my models on steel washers and transport them on magnetic sheeting, but it is pretty unforgiving when you drop a base on a hard floor. Especially when there are irreplaceable old plastics mounted on them.

Plus with magnetic bases you can play games on the fridge door, close to cold beverages (hic). :D

Wasn't so much a preference - just looking for a cost saving. If mdf can be obtained in 1mm thickness that's also an option (just make sure +Psypher+ ventilates his cutting room well ! :-) )

Magnetic is also a really good idea.

Btw : 40x15mm sounds like a really good size. Not sure if I'm sold on the chevron shape, but supplying 6 hole rectangular bases sounds good. As does 3 and 4 hole - if it doesn't become a stock nightmare!
