The is looking fantastic! I prefer rivets. What has struck me is the smallest guns look like they're fixed on the vertical axis. At 20-30 foot in the air they wouldn't hit anyone sneaking up close.

+1 on this, perhaps a ball mounting.

As to rivets, i will get some with or without, rivets can always be filed off if thats how you like it.

This is turning out to be a real designed by the community project. :)

As per elsemores comments, I reckon it would look better / be more practical with the guns mounted on Hoth style ball joints.

Or perhaps add two parallel grooves either side of the guns to give the impression that they're hinged (for want of a better word) in the vertical plane yet sit on something which can rotate in the horizontal. Ball joints might be too techy for the industrial look you're going for.

Hey guys - even though the gun ports will be very small - I decided to appease the masses :)

The ball joint idea just didn't look good on this model, so I made the horizontal rails smaller, and then added a bullet shield with a vertical slit to allow two directional movement for each cannon.

How long is the model overall?

Good work on this, coming on well :)

I vote for keeping the rivets but making them smaller so as to be appropriately scaled and not enormously oversized. E&C can get very small details to print and cast, particularly in resin. Perhaps you can ask him or he can chip in and comment on the sizes that can print and cast, but, if I recall correctly, I think 0.2mm is doable and making the rivets the smallest they can be would look better.

I like the size of the model and it looks decent, but somehow a little plain and cartoonily looking at the moment and there's potential for it look amazing with more detailing. The tracks and grills would look better with finer, more in scale detail. The sides could have more detail and texture, lines breaking up plates of armour, hatches, lights, external wires or fuel lines, ect to break up the symmetry and make it look more realistic.

Yeah that was basically why I was asking how big it was... if it's pretty big (5cm or more) then the rivets are too few and too big IMO. I'd put five times that amount of rivets onto a model that size.

depending on your screen res, this should be close to actual size. This model will barely fit on a 80x60mm base.

The rivets are large and spaced so that they show well on both the 3d print (where detail is obsured a bit) and the cast itself (again, some detail is lost). rivets to small, and they may not print (already they are .25mm across). Too close together, and they may look like a lumpy line across the surface.

Details need to be kept in check also - I want there to be some big surfaces to paint. too many tiny details, and you'll get a mess when it comes time to paint it.

yeah :) I'm going to go for realistic size in my transports - for example, thing needs to be able to carry 150+ fighting men in its lower level (30+ 5 men squads).

I cannot helt but ponder this somewhat. It is a pity it will not fit onto a 60 mm max base, but that is really pushing it in terms of wishes.

I think that you have some helpful advice when it comes to rivet sizing. I would think that somewhere in between lies my truth. A smaller size rivet will also not feel as intrusive to the eye. Additionally, you want to keep surfaces for painting, yet you have tons of gun ports and what I interpret as ventilation grilles. The only place unobscured is the lines separating the levels and following the wheelbase. Add rivets and/or lines suggesting plating there if anywhere and remove some of the ventilation detailing. Having said that - spiffy effort!

*would it be possible to have the floor separation follow the much more intresting shape of the floors instead of forming a rather dull square?

I'm not sure how the muzzle break on the cannon will cast. Might be better to make the cannon solid with indentations for black paint. Also, have you looked at printing costs on this beast? My estimate is it's 250cm^3 at the very least, which translates into money to print. Not sure if you have some plans to mitigate print volume or not.
