I bow to your superior kung fu.

The important part is that the armored sleeve is flipped depending on how they wield the cleaver. (And, of course, that the right arm is armored, which you've cleared up!)

I also like the original cleavers, even at the right scale.

The plain look of the original one is exactly what is evocative of actual butcher cleavers, and their most brutal shape in the hands of the slender stygians is a major contributor to the model great atmosphere and evocative power IMO. Keep scimitars theme ideas for a duelist/wicked swordman concept.

Butchers feel great as butchers. Unnatural, daemonic empowered slender swordmen cleaving through armour, flesh and bones in one fell swoop or their enormous blades. They don't parry hits with fancy swordplay, they split their opponent in two from shoulder to hip in a single strike before they even start to move.

Yeah I think I agree with you there. Well said.

Couldn't have said it better myself. Please keep the plain, brutal blades.

Yeah I agree with most posters, the original cleavers are better. If you go with the new ones then I'd suggest ditching the curved one, it looks silly. To much Hollywood as someone said.

I think you mentioned doing a bigger unit along similar lines? something ogre sized?
maybe the sickle shape would work for them as an "off hand" weapon, something remeniscent of a meat hook, to keep with the butcher theme

I am really liking the stygians in general, and am looking forward to seeing more, but i'm really hoping to see some OTC light tanks to act as recon for the bigger tanks. I'd love to atleast see what they'll look like before i make a tank-army order

I prefer the older style cleavers but I think they're too big. They would look better a bit thinner IMO (but I could always shave them down that way myself).

I like the originals, but I would like to see a couple little changes. On the cleavers move the holes in the blade to the back edge and maybe vary the number. Add an axe point projection to the end of the blades facing forwards (like the 2-3rd newer ones).

Old are more uniform and work better I think. The new ones are nice but maybe a bit too much :)

Someone also said at some point you should cover their face's with a mask. I took believe they would look better with blank face masks, or perhaps demon faced masks... its such a small scale so i don't think you could see them but the happy and sad face's but half happy half sad would look pretty sweet on these also.

Half happy, half sad faces run the risk of making them look like stroke victims.

I think a more acrobat model with similar masks and a range of melee weapons would be awesome though. A danse macabre of sorts like the old French Gothic theatrical productions.

Liked the original ones much better. Am not a fan of the new, random blades.

But you need to flip the armored sleeve on the lefties. To me the second from the right looks like he's using the armor correctly, while #1-3 (from the left) should be flipped.

Disagree. From the left 1-3 are right handed as they have their main hand closest to the hilt, so would benefit from the armour being on their right arm. 4 & 5 are lefties since they have their left hand close to the hilt, so in theory should have their left arm armoured.
If 4 made a strike from that stance he would be bringing his left foot forward and be presenting his left arm after the strike at which point he is at his most vulnerable.
If number 4 was planning on swinging single handedly from that stance then he is likely to die (that sort of thing only works in fiction ;) ). We are taught to always keep both hands on our swords as it gives you the best control and power and the best chance of continuing the attack or dropping into defence.

Matt

Except no swordsman of worth would never not adjust his hold to compensate for an angle of attack or a lateral shift by his foe. I'm not saying that one would switch hands and try to fight with their off-hand, but in the heat of a fight, the swordsman should be more flexible and imaginative than what you're describing. To do otherwise means he will likely die.

Plus, it's a made up sci-fi race created for table-top board game that uses dice to determine combat results. Besides, the armor that these minis are wearing is not nearly enough to be used as any sort of real protection in a melee; and especially so since most attack coming at them will be high-powered, technologically advanced ranged shots. The armor is purely for display and is not functional.

They're fine as they are, and there's no need to get too picky about unnecessary details.
