Looking good! I'm with you on the above points. It's nice to have some space to add icons etc. The small guns now look like they can be used for close defence. I do think it would benefit from some kind of command structure to finish off the top. Might be worth making a couple of configurations if it's modular.

I don't suppose you've thought of making some kind of weaponised land train???

What's shown is the model as of now - It still needs a command tower, communications, landing platform, etc.

I have heard rumors of a massive train-like vehicle used by the Grud Merchant guilds...

I'm not sure how the muzzle break on the cannon will cast. Might be better to make the cannon solid with indentations for black paint. Also, have you looked at printing costs on this beast? My estimate is it's 250cm^3 at the very least, which translates into money to print. Not sure if you have some plans to mitigate print volume or not.

Indeed - the cannons muzzle will be solid with indentions for paint. That's simply a black color applied to the model.

As for printing costs - it will indded be expensive - there will be measures taken to reduce overall costs though. At this point I'm hoping for the best,

rivets to small, and they may not print (already they are .25mm across)

Unless you're using a really cheap printer, rivets down to 0.15 mm should print reliably and discernibly.

As well as adding 200 extra rivets, I'd look to improve the tracks, which are low quality at the moment.

Which list has a vehicle of this size BTW? For example, the Cadian Leviathan carries 16 stands.

This model is for generic 6mm use.

Please refrain from any mention of existing miniature lines, gaming systems, or other IP.

I doubt you could fit 80 men in this thing and people are saying it's too big, which just goes to show how our perceptions of scale have been messed up by Epic's tiny vehicles.

You can fit 90 men inside a Hercules transport aircraft.

In Epic/6mm scale its central hull (no wings or tail section) be about 6-7cm long and 3-4cm wide.

Humans are actually rather good at squishing into small spaces.

I was thinking about print volume some more last night, and the more I think about it the more I like the idea of interior detail, even if it's only a treadplate floor. I understand it may not be practical at this point but I need to get it off my mind. ;)

First a pilfered preview shot for reference.

If you make the part above the first band that goes around the entire vehicle (between the two sets of small casemates) a seperate component, you can then split the lower section into four components: left side, right side, engine, and ramp.

The left and right sides would consost of one side of the vehicle, half the rear excepting the engine detail, anf the floor of the troop compartment and any associated detail. The engine component would consist of both engine sections and the detail in between, the ramp is self explanitory. you could then make the upper section of the vehicle have a lip that fit into the open top of the troop comartment, allowing those who medel the interior to remove it.

The advantages of this layout are a) decrease in print volume b) increased detail and allowance for ramp down modeling, and c) the only visible seams would be inside and on the bottom, since the engine would cover the rear seam and the ramp would have none to cover.

There's my thoughts, take 'em or leave 'em. Off to work for me!

I made up this pic to show you how many men could stand in just the bottom level with elbow room to spare:

That's 126 dudes - I'm sure if they got cozy you could easily fit more in there too....

Spectrar Ghost - You have some good points there man, thanks!

Sorry, those are not dudes, they're squattish lobster dudes :P

Just kidding, it's much bigger than I thought it was. Still a playable size in my opinion.

Big vehicles are good, whats the point of playing with this scale if you can't have true scale mega vehicles, it is called EPIC after all.

Looking forward to the next update.

So here's where the model is now - note that the new additions still need detailing:

Image

What do you guys think? (BTW - The little guy on the deck is there just so I could size the railing and control tower correctly.) If you can't tell from the picture, the control tower is on the opposite corner of the cannon - I did this so that 1. The cannon can rotate almost 360 degrees and 2. So that the driver would have a better of view of whats in front of the vehicle. It also balances out the model visually.

Thoughts?

Looks a bit fragile compared to the rest of the thing. How would an observationbunker type look fit? I imagine there will be some sort of sensors guiding the driver negating the need for massive windows.

so like armored vision slits coupled with sensor arrays? That's an idea.
