Smaller 30mm one for me also. Much easier to move around the battlefield, interact with terrain. Also, if you do go 40mm, I think the guns need shrinking.

I understand what you say about true-scale. Whilst real life APC are very small, I guess the problem with 28mm 40K transport size is that you are not trying to fit in 10 people but 10 power armoured marines. Whilst 10 guardsmen in a chimera is more realistic, those guardsmen are heroic scale so overly large. 10 Death Korps of Krieg infantry into a Chimera is no problem. So really it all depends on the size of your infantry. My preferred solution would be to shrink the size of the infantry though I suppose they are already in production so that is no longer an option.

you really think a 11m40 (about 38 ft ) APC is realistic ? that's what 40mm * 285 makes it. And the warriors it transports are not as bulky as Space Marines are supposed to be.

Anyway the confusion about the scale arise because It's not about actual marines, it's about miniatures. Marines miniatures have absurd proportions, but the main issue is when we try to imagine the miniatures inside the tank model. our mind does not easily bend such rigid figures though, so that "toy realism" (i.e. I can fit my action figure doll in my model car) is not achieved. But most GW customers suppose that the vehicles are too small, where actually the soldiers are wrong; and the rigidity of their armor makes them hard to imagine in crowded space.

But anyway all sci-fi is not all about space marines. It's not about making a "proper sized rhino" here, whatever that would be. It's about human shaped soldiers, with an equipment apparently comparable in bulk to the one RL soldiers use.

FW even produced seated soldier to be able to fill some of its transports... and they fit (for the Gorgon, manta, Valkyries I think, maybe some others as well). The only issue is the marine/rhino one I think. and the mk2 rhino is already a bit bulkier than the first one.

As the games ground scale isn't linear I don't mind that the models also don't scale linearly either. If you go with consistent sizes for everything then I would have a hard time accepting artillery on the table again. Basilisks being 88's the exception. Deathstrikes are still silly regardless ;)

Wow! This thread sure took off while I was sleeping! :)

I think the general consensus is that true scale is good - but the tank is just too big - I think I agree.

Looking at real work tank dimensions, the print is just too big. an abrams tank for example is 32 feet from gun tip to ass, and the chassis on the OTC tank alone is 35.

I'll mess around today and see what I can come up with.

So long and short - I'm keeping true scale - reducing the size of the OTC tanks. (Current size of the Tartarus is fine though imo - the thing can hole 150 men!)

For an easier comparison concerning the OTC, Wikipedia indicates an hull-only length of 26.02 ft (7.93 m) for the M1 Abrams.

Although I'm not very Tartarus inclined myself, Huge war engines are definitely welcome ! Keeping a reasonable size (i usually mean reasonable compared to RL counterparts) for Tanks and APC sized vehicles helps make the huge war engines look that much more gigantic, threatening, and awesome :).

Admittedly most of the GW AFVs are too small compared to their infantry as is GZG's ... most 10mm sized models are closer, IMO ... regardless ... it's a minor concern at this point ... so do what works best for you ... BTW, FYI ... an M113 is about 16 feet long and 9 feet wide ...

OK check it out - I put some neo ashigaru in a seated position and really crammed them in there. I think this configuration is realistic, and allowed me to reduce the size of the tank by over 25%

Now the tank fits comfortably on a 20x40mm base.

Compared to some GW minis - rhino rings in at 22x15mm, Landraider at 28x22mm

Now I’m going to wish I could buy OTCs with opening doors, and those seated Neo Ashigaru actually modeled…
