Hi,

Could someone  please clarify what the rule is supposed to be here?  I may be playing an assault game tommorrow, so there's clearly going to be scope for using this rule (or not), for the defender.

Core Rules says:
"Light Artillery may not fire the turn it enters a building, but may leave and fire normally on Advance Orders."

Is this supposed to mean:
1.  they can only fire from inside the building on advance orders, but not on the turn they enter (presumably to prohibit Snap Fire, and Indirect Fire); or
2.  that they can only move in and out of the building, and can not fire while inside?

Strictly it appears to say, they can't fire from inside the building, but can move into them.  But I can't see why it doesn't just say that, which suggests there is more to it (ie. it's missing a comma after 'may leave').

I know it's picky, but as it is, I don't know what the rule is.

I believe the intent is to allow Light Artillery to be able to fire from buildings, but only when on Advance orders.

:D Yeah!  I like them that way.

Thanks Mr Supreme.

If others would confirm it, i'll note it, to add to the errata.

Strictly as written, I interpret it to mean:

- if entering a building on advance orders (or charge obviously) Light Artillery may not fire that turn. (representing time to lug it up, set it up, knock out a wall or two.)
- once inside it can be given orders normally (i.e. First Fire is ok)
- if given advance orders and moved out of the building it may fire normally.

Good point, Zap.

Hmm.. yes, that makes sense.  Thanks Herr Zap! Sometimes I just seem to read a rule differently.  Now you mention it it seems mostly obvious, and explains the relation to the previous sentence 'Bunkers have been designed to allow Light Artillery to fire normally, but buildings have not.'

But why tell me I can "leave and fire as usual on Advance orders". Do I have to advance out?  It seems unnecessary, as there is no similar restriction to move in.  I guess this is just to say you're not restricted from firing when moving out.

I would prefer "Light Artillery may not fire the turn it enters a building, to allow them time to setup their weapons, but may leave the building normally."

Or maybe it's just me that struggles with these things?  I can be a touch dyslexic.

Hmmm, I think we need might need clarification from Primarch for the intent of this rule.

Aye.  No doubt the rules god will put matters straight.

Hi!

Zap has the correct interpretation. You cannot fire the first turn you move into the building. On successive turns you may give it any orders.

If you give it advance orders you can "pull out" and fire.

I believe this should be reworded.

In siege scenarios the artillery may begin "in place" and thus be given first fire orders and shoot in the first turn.

Cheers Peter!   :)

Looks like I'll be attacking tomorrow instead, so I'll be facing a smattering of seriously dug-in Thudd Guns.  They'll actually last a while with these rules, which is a nice change.

Then again my opponent really likes his tanks... but that would be a silly choice.

Hi!

No problem. I really appreciate this intensive reading/editing. A great deal of errata is finally getting sorted out.
