Hi, I've been working on some new Eldar army cards compatible with the v5 army list. I've only done a sub-set of the company, special & support cards to see what they come out like. UPDATE: latest copy is here - http://www.bencoleman.co.uk/netepic/ All comments welcome. |

I really like them. They're eye-appealing and have useful stats on the back. ![]() |

Hi! Wow JoyrexJ9, I'm really impressed. I know WMN is hard pressed with netepic gold and his other commitments, so would you be interested in leading the efforts for 5.0 netepic army cards? If so contact me and we can talk with WMN about coordinating all this. Did I say I was impressed? ![]() Primarch |

They are pretty impressive. ?However so you know, the consensus last time we had a "vote" was for cards similar to the SM2 style silhouettes of units on the front in the same count as the models. ?If you go to the Netepic mailing list in the files section there are some very nice sample cards for the Slann. If you wanna make some of those I'd love to see them. |

Primarch - Wow I wasn't expecting a job offer! ![]() zap123 - I tried using silhouettes on the cards like the old SM2 style ones, but found I ran into some issues: - I couldn't find source images for the silhouettes so it would mean drawing each one from scratch, this would take me forever and I'd probably never finish. Photo's of models don't convert well to silhouettes either, I tried that. - The 40k model images are easy to find (Google image search!) and there are a lot of decent quality ones out there. |

Excellent cards ![]() If you feel up to it I think it would be great if you'd to the Army Cards. There's a few technical issues you need to bear in mind though ( If you're familiar with printed graphic design you probably already know but I thought I'd say it just to be sure ![]() 1: Image quality: Web images will only in rare cases be usable for print as the resolution is way too low. You need to make sure any images you use are at least 150 dpi and preferably 300 dpi. You can always downsize a big image but you can never (Or only very very moderately) stretch a small one without quality loss. 2: Copyright issues: Although it is unlikely anybody here will complain, there is an issue with using images from GW's website. So far we've been very merticulous in using only original artwork that doesn't infringe GW IP. Since we're including unit pics in all the army books it should be possible for you to re-use those images. All of these should meet the above mentioned requirements but they do suffer from the issue of varying quality in terms of photographic skills since lots of diferent people contribute and not everybody is a professional photographer ![]() A few comments about the layout (this is just my personal opinion so others would most likely disagree ![]() Why seperate weapon stats from the rest of the unit stats? It can be slightly confusing to make out which weapon goes on which unit (and how many of that weapon is on each). If possible I think it might be better to have it together with each unit description (Although there's a chance it may look crowded when there's lots of units with many weapon stats... I'm a bit unsure about the extensive use of gradients on the various bars and boxes. Depending a bit on which programs have been used to make the cards I'd like to see them on print. Sometimes gradients can turn out "stripey" on print but that is usually only on very large prints. Just a minor issue to bear in mind really. By any rate very nice work ![]() |

Ok, thanks for the all the comments and feedback guys ? like an idiot I hadn?t considered the legal implications of pinching a load of GW images, silly me! So here is another draft of the same cards but I?ve made a load of changes: ? Now using silhouettes instead of photo?s, cards now look much more SM2 style and will stop any GW lawyers knocking at our door ![]() ? The stats are all on a single line, this has given me a little room on some cards for a bit of flavor text ? Some drop shadows on the text in the gradients should make them easier to read I?ve printed them out some on ordinary A4 paper and they look pretty good (even the gradients). They fit in the clear plastic sleeves used for CCGs so you don?t even need to stick them to card just pop both sides in the sleeve and it?s got enough support to be usable. Hopefully this will be the format I use going forward. I didn?t want plough forward doing lots of cards until I got the format right. |

Hi! Te layout of the cards is excellent and as you already realized we just need to not use GW IP images. We have lots of our own stuff and are filling in the blanks. Let me know if you need anything. Primarch |

Sorry I forgot to post the new link! I've deleted the old file, I'll keep a work in progress copy on this page on my blog http://www.bencoleman.co.uk/netepic/ The latest version is on there, I've added a load more cards, and I'm trying a new card header, this time without a gradient to see how it works out. All comments appreciated ! |

Very impressive!! ![]() I would have preferred half-sized cards for support cards. Though I've no idea what (if anything) was the consensus on that. Just might take up alot of space when you deal them out. Then again, I suppose I could just print them smaller ![]() |

(loofnick @ May 10 2007,10:03) QUOTE I would have preferred half-sized cards for support cards. As would I. It's easier to tell at a glance what's a company and what's a support detachment. Either way, the cards look great. |

I was thinking of making the support cards half height. The colour of the title bar is the current way of telling the cards apart; red = company, green = support, blue = special (maybe purple for free or unique cards - I hadn't got that far) One thing that has stopped me doing the support cards half height is they would no longer fit nicely in a single CCG sleeve, well not without cutting the sleeve. Can I have a general "vote" for who would like to see the support cards half height?? (looks like we have two votes already!) There are two downsides to having the smaller cards; things like the condensed rules reminder text I was able to fit on some cards will have to go (e.g. the Dire Avengers 3 attack dice rules) as will the "flavor" text. BTW - Can anyone tell me if the special cards were half-height too? I no longer have any original GW Epic stuff at all to base this on! Thanks guys! Ben |
