In my last battle I played the tyranids.

I decided to deepstrike with their spores.
Altogether I used about 30-40 spores for this.

I thought that I should drop one detachment at a time.

I started to drop the no-good termagants in 2 waves of 10 each. This meant that my opponent chose to fire his FF fire at these guys to protect his precious orks and therefore killing quite a few of them.

Then he was out of FF fire, and I dropped my big guns, one of them a trygon (who accidently landed on a Super-heavy and was destroyed FAAH). This meant for me that I could drop my big guns with him having no chance of shooting at them since he was out of fire, and if he had fire left he would know (with some experience from tyranids) that when I say "here I drop a single spore" that here comes something nasty. And he can therefore choose to shoot at that. Saving shots for when I drop 1 or very few models.

This was offcourse good for me, but I didnt like it at all.. I think that all models should be "dropped" at the same time so that he can choose his targets.I should say I drop 35 spores in this area (or something like that) and he answers I shoot at 1,4,6,13. If we would do it like that it would mean that noone would know what units are killed in the fire, and I cannot wait until he is out of FF to drop my big guns.

In short I dont think I was supposed to drop one detachment at a time - instead name the number of spores and then let him start his FF.

I havent really understood the rules on how to do this, and this is why I am abit confused now on how it all works.

I mean in a real battle if you see things falling from the sky you just shoot at everything that comes at you in a chaotic way and not mathematically trying to find out what he is dropping..

How do you guys drop?

jee the third question in a week i think somebody need to rewrite somethings here (i also found the rules a but confusing at times)

Drop pods have always been a pain to write in a simple manner. I'll have to review it again and see what to come up with.

It says pretty clearly that all spores in an army must be dropped in the same compuylsory movement phase...so they all have to go together.  Do we really need to get more descriptive than that?  If detachment by detachment works for you go for it; if you want to do 1-35 all at once then cool.  I would have thought the former would actually be a little more realistic because of course you'd drop the expendable stuff first...but either works.

if you look a air drops (and space drops) in the real world every thing goes down in one big cluster within 2 minutes you can't drop selective in the real world so it would be strange that you could in the game especially when we talk space drop (you launch ship is in low orbit with a speed of 155.000 km/h and you have to launch the pods in a trajectory so they hit the ground on the battle field (just that is a big task) witch need to be done whit in 3 seconds or you have to wait 40 minutes for a new launch window)

Hi!

After re-reading the rules. They are pretty clear. They all come down together. Units on firs fire shoot "en masse" at the spore/pods.

The best way to simulate use the numbered chits that came for the SM drop pods (the player having assigned the spores/pod contents before the game per number), the firer selects (or if you prefer roll 2d20, 2-40, with rolls of 38+ you get to choose).

All random and fair.

I'll add a caveat to this effect.

Sorry but it is not written in the tyranid army book that "all spores in an army must be dropped in the same compulsory movement phase".
It is written that "Spores have the Deep Strike ability, and all spores belonging to an Army Card must be deployed in the same Compulsory Movement Phase."
That makes a big difference.
