Hello all !
I've got some questions about the correct use of point defense in close combat
Here is a concrete exemple:

Let's say that there is a lone baneblade with its 10 Point defense.
He's charged by a lone empty rhino.
In a future activation, some trolls charge the baneblade too.

1/?Can the baneblade ignore the first rhino and keep the point defense for "something bigger"?
2/?If the answer is yes for the above question, can the point defense fire at the troll even if the baneblade is engaged in close combat with the rhino?
3/?Can you separate dices and wait? For exemple spend 4 shoots on the rhino, and keep the 6 others for the other?

Thanks in advance for your answers.

Hi!

Note that point defense can be taken as a snap fire action or wait until the combat phase to fire on first fire (regardless of actual order), before close combat resolution.
Also you can fire some, all or none or those dice.

You can select targets as well.

In summary to answer your questions. You can select which targets to fire at and how many dice you can assign to each target (totally ignoring some units) this avoids the ploy of sending in "dummy unit" (the ploy with the rhino you describe in your example). It doesnt matter who is in close combat with the baneblade point defense fire can be taken.

If these weren't true point defense would be worthless.  :;):

Charge a baneblade at your peril.....

Sorry again but i've got two others questions:

Let's take the same baneblade. During the close combat, it's surrounded, kills some foes but not all, and one survive. So during the next turn, he's still engaged in close combat.

1/?During the next turn, can he use again his points defense on the survivor before the new close combat round begins?
2/? If some models pass next to it, can the point defense fire at them, ignoring the close combat?

I think yes but i'm not sure.

Hi!

Regarding question 1 - yes. Point defense works on a turn by turn basis.

Regarding two, if the units engaged with the baneblade cannot pin it, then it could ignore the ones in close combat and engage passerbys.
