Umm in my recent battle report I had two lots of Imperial Guard fliers, Valkyries and Vultures.    This got me thinking about the Imperial Guard chain of command rule and fliers in general.

If I bought an Airbourne detachment (10 tactical stands and 5 valkyries) these and the supporting vultures would quickly be out of the CoC.  A major problem.  I got around it in my battle report by using an inquisitor and putting him forward with the valkryies.

Should all fliers be independent?  Thunderbolts, Maruaders, Valkyries and Vultures all go way out of range of the CoC.

Should airbourne detachments be independent in the same way as scout units?  After all to become airbourne in the modern army they have to be elite and think on their feet?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't there a rule in NetEpic which states that transports don't have stay in formation with whatever they transported? If there isn't, I agree that aircraft should be allowed to act independently.

Yeah they can but do all aircraft count as independent anyway?  I can't find that in the rules?

Airbourne troops should definatley have independent.

Hi!

All aircraft are independent, they do not observe the command rule.

As far as deployable IG troops, I would say they are independent as well.

Thanks Primarch, much appreciated once more.  I'll add it to the errata as well.
