Hi all,

I was just wondering how people deal with the individual models from the various character packs within NetEpic?

In the rules it states that special cards chosen for cavalry company's automatically get the movement attributes of the company.

Building on this slightly what is the best practice for the following -

Terminator Librarian, Chaplin, Captain.  Do you give them an additional point value to the special card (Say extra 25 pts or 50 if they have their own Land Raider (upgrade from Rhino)) and upgrade them to the terminator stats?  e.g. CAF increased to terminators.

Bike mounted librarian, captain or chaplin.  Allow these to be used under the cavalry company rules at normal cost but must retain unit coherency with the detachment they are assigned to.

Assault characters, free upgrade to assault jump packs so movement increased in line with troops they are assigned to?

Another thing can NetEpic characters be mounted with in vehicles if required?  E.g. Commissars in Superheavies as per E:A or Chaplins on Land Speeders?

Cheers

Excellent points, Enderel. I hadn't thought about how to integrate the new character minis into NetEpic. I'm sure Primarch will have the answer.

Thanks Dwarfy  :D

The other thing is do they count as an extra unit or do they take the place of a unit already with in the detachment? (E:A style)  E.g. Chaplin accompanies an Assault detachement.  Is that 6 stands (Chaplin takes place of one stand) or 7 stands (Chaplin is in addition to normal troops)

I definately prefer the latter.

I'm pretty sure that in NetEpic, like SM2, special characters like Chaplains and Librarians aren't added to the detachment (actually it would be the company, since you can only take one Special per company), but rather are their own separate unit which don't have to maintain unit integrity with any other units.

I was trying to stretch the rules a bit and get an HQ special card for each company (e.g. Captain, Apothocary, Librarian, Tech Marine, Chaplin)

So for say 300 pts you could have 5 units to spread around the company and detachments!

I really don't think any of those should function as an HQ unit, except for maybe the Captain, since they are more like auxiliary units which operate independently from other units.

Sorry yeah I was meaning five individual stands but on the one special card. Making them join detachments would be a way of limiting them run off all over the board as super units..

Okay, I get it now. :p

One problem with that is that you could end up with a lot more "characters" than companies, since you can only have one special card per company. Having a unit of 5 librarian stands, for example, instead of having only one stand for a company, could be too powerful.

well we use the character as special unit and have a special card, the special habilities are described in the card.

The points costs and the number of habilities are a designiers work  :p
We usually use the "character cart" for free-point, the character is assigned by the scenario/campaign dissigner to each player.

...or each player can write her own characters and use in the battles. One time the fall of the character (Space marine captain Gerard De'Bries from imperial fists)   generates a new scenario!!!  the transport unit is added to the card cost if the character is free but we want that we are mounted in a land raider we use this formula.

character 0 points
land raider 85 (250 the land raider squadron / 3 lanraiders)
total points 85

Ah yes!! all the characters have the independent hability.

Yes yes!! I know as a role player I think that all the world is in Black and white but the characters/players have colour!!

Hi!

Librarians, medics, chaplains, inquisitors and all such units are special cards, so you can add one per company cards there.

Platoon leaders, commissars and IG HQ units get the same locomotion as the company they lead, so if commanding roughriders they get horses, if on bikes they get bikes.

HQ units are somewhat a misnomer in epic. Many of these units have no real command function. Its more a designation regarding its independent movement on the battlefield.

Hi Primarch,  thanks for some clarification, it's not really answered all my questions though -

1 - With the new models e.g. Terminator Librarian minature what is the associated points cost?  Or should we just count them as a normal librarian and keep the stats and costs for that special card.  If that is the case it seems a bit of waste of a model?

2 - Many E:A character units can be represented on a single stand (e.g. commander, techmarine, apothocary on a marine stand and a colonel, commissar and pycher on a IG stand)

How do we count these?  Are they just one generic HQ model with no special rules?  Or can we pay the cost for each of the associated functions (medic, tech priest) and have them as a super unit?

3 - If I want to field a complete company (e.g. what the rule book states as a company, HQ staff, support units and main company) surely then a HQ card should be available to represent all the HQ staff being deployed to suppport the company.  The restriction I would put on it however is that each unit must be assigned and stay with one of that company's detachments.  They are not independent characters.

4 - Can you specifically purchase a special card which is then put inside a vehicle. e.g. Buy a chaplin and use them with a bike detachment, hence they are on a bike?  Or purchase a commander special card and put them in a land raider or similar?

Just trying to add some flexibility to the new models that are available.   :D

Hi!

1. Ah, I see. Normally librarians have power armor, no provision or cost was made for a terminator armored one. Additional rules would need to be made to accomodate this model. This is not hard, since you could use the basic terminator stats and add librarian powers. I'd cost that special card at 150 points.

2. I dont completely understand question 2. Netepic has special card rules for those you mentioned as separate stands. Could you clarify?

3. Currently in netepic such characters are independent special cards, no part of the HQ unit support staff.

4. Yes, you can give the unit the mobility it needs to keep up with the company you give it to. At the moment at no additional cost.

Thanks Primarch,

I might well develop some rules for the differing ideas I've got at the moment regards multiple unit special cards, integrating HQ units into detachments and character options for upgrades.
