half way through a game, my chaos hordes breached the trench line and are sweeping towards the city walls, cue die roll to release imperator titan, two turns later looks like someone has swept the table clear of chaos, okay a couple of good die rolls but im thinking this titan is just too powerful, okay so i did,nt have to use it in the game, but well i did.however it dealt out death at an alarming rate any chaos forces who could deal or hurt it where obviously wasting their time as it allowed my imperials the time to take them out without fear of retribuition.

now does anyone think this titan is a game winner or a game stopper?, put it this way it took 3 hell scourges and 2 land raiders out in one shot!!! okay lucky or unlucky die rolls, but that did,nt include the other losses from its other main weapons!!!

so game over, i could have carried on but well the titan just put a dampner on the whole game, so for me its a game stopper :(

I havent played using the Imp titan a whole lot (I think the miniature is rather ugly), but when I did, it had similar effects on the game as the ones you discribe. So I agree, it seems very powerful...

We see Titans/ Gargants as battle ships, we only use one or two per side, if any. ?First priority is always to "kill all Titans". ?All assets that can come to bare are levelled on them. ?By turns 2 or 3 only one very damaged "survivor" is left barely standing. ?Anything with that much fire power must be taken out of circulation }:) !!! ? It's a mobile weapons platfrom that is important in supporting the ground forces, and a heavy weapon that draws a lot of fire.

Hi!

As with most armies and units I gave Imperators a good test run. Played them against all available armies and most combinations I could think of and i concluded the following:

1. You can easily win by ignoring it. The imperator is a huge chunk of points from your army, meaning little is left for the rest of the players army. Concentrate on everything that is NOT the Imperator. You will usually have such a numerical superiority over you opponent that you can wipe out most of his force or pin it down quickly. Once that happens, the Imperator becomes moot.

2. If you want to kill it, do it in close combat. The cheapest method are two reavers armed for close combat (close combat heads, fists, chain saw, laser burner, etc). Why reavers, they are fast, have them charge in using as much cover as possible as they come into the attack, try to run them in flanking, that way it can only bring to bear some, but not all weapons. Engage it quickly, the first reaver may get beat, but the second one with all the close combat weapons and close combat weapons will most assuredly get a punch in and if it is armed with a power fist it can go for maximum damage. Scratch one Imperator.

What to kill it by shooting? It CAN be done, but for some armies its easier than others. Eldar is probably the best with phantoms armed with pulse lasers (dual pulse lasers....) to strip shields and use the D-cannon or heat lance for the kill. Orks can do it too with their gutbuster ball round, but are usually to far to capitalize with their short ranged weapons, it can be done though.

I have found it to hardly be a game stopper or game winner. It takes getting used to, but once you do, you develop counter-tactics very fast and efficiently.

Ah, case in point, as we discussed on a previous post, two different commanders, two different rules systems, two different tactical solutions ??? ... excellent example of the various options available in the Epic universe ... ?:) ?As Spock would say, "Fascinating..."

Primarchs article from the EPICentre springs to mind here, http://www.netepic.org/EZINE/html/titan_hunting.htm an excellent article on how to dispose of unwanted enemy titans.

While you are there the Chaos strategies page is superb, I used it myself in all the battles I had done with Chaos and it has not failed me yet :).

Hi!

Strategy articles are always cool, I can post some (or write them on the spot) for those interested.
