Post subject:  Tyranid Titan Bio-Cannons AA clarification

Hi fellow NetEpic fans,

Can anyone clarify if Titan bio-cannons:

1) have the -2 penalty for firing on non-titan, non-praetorian and non-building ground targets

2) have 360 degree arc of fire

The NetEpic Gold Tyranid army book says:

"Bio-cannon are similar to the multi-orifice weapons mounted
on Exocrine." (A)

"Bio-Cannon is fast tracking weapons and is considered anti-aircraft for purposes
of firing on thrusters." (B)

(A) Seems to suggest they get the -2 vs small targets, and have the 360 arc all the time

(B) Seems to suggest they don't get the -2 vs small targets, and have the 360 arc only when firing against "thrusters" (which seems to be a typo meaning aerial targets)

Thanks! Bio-cannons basically seem rather powerful (3 shots at 5+ with -3 and +1 penetrating, and AA) compared with the Imperial Gatling Blaster or Turbo-Laser Destructor

Another possible clue is that the Exocrine weapon is also called "Bio-Cannon" and has exactly the same stats, except it has 2 shots instead of 3 and is clearly AA including penalties vs small ground targets.

Titan Bio-Cannons: There are not really AA as per stated in the AA rule. They can target at flyers without the -2 penalty when shooting at a flyer. They can also be used to shoot at ground target without penalty. Being able to shoot at flyers does not give the Bio-Cannon a 360° arc of fire. The weapon description is not very well written, the "is considered anti-aircraft" is a shortcut that may involve misunderstanding.
Exocrines case is more complicated, IMHO, as it's written, is a real AA unit but they can also shoot at ground target without penalties (that's not written).

You should check the NetEpic errata document where some big changes are made to the Tyranid list:
- Exocrines are not AA anymore, Zoanthropes are now the dedicated AA units for the Tyranid list.

Hi!

Thanks for fielding the questions Scream! :)

I echo his recommendation to look at the errata thread, also I just uploaded updated versions of the gold books and errata document at the Epicenter.
