Recently when I've been playing I've been referencing the rules via my iPad. It's a much better way of doing things than carting rule books all over the place, but...loading pages seems to take an age due to the density of the images.

The rule books are gorgeous and in no way do I wish to denigrate the wonderful work done on the books. I'm just wondering if, for reference during play, there is any way it would be possible to get a text only version?

Someone asked about that a while ago, but I cannot quite recall which thread. It should be fairly simple to do. I'll look into that a bit later.

Even the summaries for unit stats, Titan Weapons and charts would make a big difference.

Hi!
Hi!

Magnus is correct that it was asked for.

Too bad you didn't get a surface and can't use PDF's.

I find not being able to use them on the apple product a mortal sin. ;)

I can and do use the PDFs on the iPad. The only problem is that due to the size of the documents when you are jumping from one end of the document to the other (as sometimes happens) it takes maybe 10 seconds to properly bring up the information. That doesn't sound much, but when you are referring to the document several times over, it can become frustrating.

Hi!

So apple finally broke down and made a deal with adobe? ;) ;D

Now your gonna tell me ipads have flash too. :P

In any even some sort of text document is in order. Kind of funny that is what net epic was for many years, a text document.

Back to the future! :)

Ha!

You have to use a proper computer to download the document then email it to yourself. You install the iBooks app first and then open it. You'll be ask if you want to open it in iBooks. Once you do, that's you got it there in your library. Simple(ish)! :D

Hi bissler

This would not get you a text only version, but would ~1/4 the file size, which might help.

In acrobat go file, save as, reduced file pdf. Done :) (not sure if think works in the free adobe acrobat reader version though, i'm using pro)

Alternatively, delete all the pages you don't need from the pdf the reduce the file size. (again, not sure what level of acrobat product this functionality appears in, i'm sure there is free third party software that does it anyway though)

Caveat: I've never used a pdf on an ipad, so dunno if cutting file size will actually help with your problem.

Oh or it seems you can easily scrape out all images in a pdf in acrobat as well. Just tried on the chaos book and it went form ~60MB to ~9MB.

(or just save the pdf as a word doc … bit messy though, it gets rather over enthusiastic with tabs trying to persevere the formatting! formatting would probably then mess up on tablet. Nice small file though. Really need the master files to do any big change, but as you can see there are still options to squish the pdf)

Hi!

Looks like Apoc has a good solution there. :)

Sorry for the threadmancy, but aren't the gold rules and the v5 version the same apart from the pretty pictures? I had problems with loading times on my crappy old laptop so I used the v5 rules as they were much smaller files.

Hi!

They are "close", but not the same. Some changes occurred between the two versions. Most are unit tweaks, although some minor rules changes were made as well.
