There's been people complaining here and on Facebook that they find the terms Net Epic and Net EA confusing. I agree - and the reason for this is because those plagiarist NetEA pigs pretty much copied our name. >:D

So, being that we - the Net Epic community - were here first, I propose that Net EA sod off off our land and come up with a new creative name for their past-time.

Thanks for listening and agreeing with me.

I just play NetNet, an elegant combination of the worst bits of both rulesets.

Wouldn't it be easier for the three of you to decide on a new name for netepic?

No. With blood and pish and muck we marked our territory some decades ago. Do you really think we want to go through that again?

But Apoc's game sounds good! Tell me more about Net Net... :D

NetNet is now a largely hermeneutic exercise. This has left it at an interesting point in development – the ruleset is now essentially unplayable due to the five folio volumes of commentary required to cover the three main schools of thought on rules interpretation. For the casual player it is recommended to switch between each mode of play in sets of three turns. Every ninth turn sees the end of a scrimmage and at the 45th turn halftime is called so that players update their spread sheets and get in a couple of rounds of volley ball (might as well, since the net is up already). However, as a result of decades of rule wrangling* a saturation point of sorts has been reached and years of toxic rules debates have settled at equilibrium as no one actually plays the game anymore. Not playing the game has, surprisingly, been discovered as the best way to play the game in a stress free manner, avoiding the tangled internecine conflicts of online communities and conflicting authorities.

*the worst being the introduction of the chrono-weapons special rules. In short, every turn a d74 was rolled, a table consulted and a ruleset from the year (or sub-reading of a ruleset) on the table used for the rest of the turn. That is, unless a double φ was rolled, meaning players had to change timezone instead (and gender, in the case of an additional critical) – this caused problems if transport aircraft were in the game as the different methods of resolving air assaults caused further delays.

I complained to GW awhile back that naming their two core games Warhammer and Warhammer 40k was immensely confusing. I've yet to receive an update as to whether they're going to do anything about it.

Ok, but you can't use d6's as the rest of the Epic Union uses them, and if you want to be a member of this board you'll have to re-apply. Also, bear in mind that W40k strongly advises against this split as it believes we are stronger together.

Any attempt to stamp on my right to use D6's will be met with fierce resistance.

Resistance such as this:

I'm pretty sure Apoc is now my personal hero (he also wins the internets for today)

For the casual player

Sloppy writing on might part – there are of course no 'casual' netnet players. The casuals all play 40k, only real gamers play netnet.

I'm sure several people here also remember a development a couple of years ago that some new members of taccom might have missed. Unit datafaxes and formation cards had, at one point, so many footnotes they were unreadable, what with everyone playing epic already being partially blind from painting and unable to read the small type. Instead a QR code system and smartphone app were developed. A QR code was stuck on the command stand of each unit* this could then be scanned by the phone to get the stats up. For the main units this often meant you needed a dedicated phone per formation. Players are now recommended to have at least 5 phones or tablets to play netnet. This later fell through as the website hosting the project was never the right colour for more than 15% of contributors at any one time (I may also have played my part in its downfall by complaining about the margin size and font choice … repeatedly).

*or every firth sub-element if using the Turing-Wiffle Dutch interpretation of the rules – see 'what you need to play' section 1.1.1.1.1.5.6.1.8 §9, though this is hotly contested by NZ players and the micro-tournament scenes of several lapsed German principalities.

I think this should all lead to an all out epic war between members of both camps. I proclaim the Emperor to be our master, ye NetEpic heretic!!!

But how would we fight fairly? We EA players would sportingly wait for the NetEpic guys to move a brigade and they'd flip over confusing order counters and first fire while we were busy rolling to activate, you'd have netepic players being attacked and ignored by their comrades mere feet away, and our hammerheads would be ineffective while theirs would be riddling our leman russes with holes..... then the netEA players would start squabbling about whether they should even HAVE hammerheads as the sacred texts of jerrr-vys and koh'dex are actually just tools for extracting stubborn pocket money from the wallets of teenage boys....

See kyuss, just play netnet, it supports the use of multiple stats and rules variations in one game, being at once all inclusive and unplayable. All you have to do is get the correct score when rolling to collapse each formations' wave function and the rest is a 17 hour stroll in the park. Nobody wins, it's perfect.
