Post subject: | Epic Campaign Question & Idea |
I was wondering if anyone had ever designed a campaign system for NetEpic? I have a few ideas for a system, but don't want to spend time designing it if something already exists for this! Here's the very basics of the idea that I have; My system would essentially involve designing a large scale map on a grid representing a wide territory on a contested planet, within which the various armies on each side would move and attempt to capture campaign objectives (not unlike the game of epic itself). Both sides would agree on a campaign points cost (eg 50,000) and which sides they would play and then design their entire force. This would be broken down into more managable sized armies at each players' discretion, (eg 8 armies of 5k, one of 4k & two of 3k). Obviously when designing each army, the players would have to take into consideration what they could actually field in each battle, at some point these forces will come into contact with the enemy and when games of epic are instigated you want to be able to field everything you have in your army! This means that it is likely that different sized forces face off against one another, causing players to have to change the way they play in many circumstances. Over time, the results of the battles and the holding of campaign objectives would mount up until there was an overall winner. Also, there would be scope within this system for reintroducing the old Titan experience rules. Assuming that no such system exists, would the community be interested in me working on such a project? Obviously once I'd drafted the basic rules I'd be happy to take on board comments of all here to make the best campaign experience possible. |

Great idea Bissler. I have no idea if someone has made a system already, but I give thumbs up for you to continue developing one ![]() |

Cheers Lead Space, glad to hear it may be of interest to you. The idea was something I came up with years ago and never really came to full fruition (though it was playtested one summer by myself and a friend). I can't find my old scribbled notes but I do remember pretty well how it worked so will get typing. I'm tentatively calling it "Epic War!" so long as this doesn't breach any copyrights, etc. |

Hi! Bissler, its been tried quite a few times, but no one has come up with an idea that was universally liked. But its been a long time since it was last tried. Your welcome to take a stab at it. ![]() Primarch |

Thanks Primarch, I will do. I've started writing up my ideas on a Word doc, once I've finished it I'll start a new thread & attach it (but it may be 2013 before this will be ready!). Good or bad, I look forward to seeing what people make of it! Cheers! |

You might find DNME's campaign map and rules for his Epic Space Marine battles of some inspiration. It doesn't have the scope that you're proposing, but I think that it would be worth a look. |

Thanks for posting that link! The campaign map is very similar to what I was thinking of as well! It's unfortunate that the rules link is no longer working. I think I'll plough on with my own rules meantime... Hopefully they may prove of interest to the community! Cheers! |

I've been asked for a wee update on this project. There are two versions of the rules that I am working on. There are the basic rules which make for the most simplistic campaign experience I can come up with. These will be posted up hopefully within the next week or so. But to add (considerably) to the depth of the campaign will be the advanced rules which add on to the the basic rules. Players will be able to treat these as a veritable sweet shop of goodness, all of which they can pick and choose to get the best experience out of the system that they can. Don't like those purple sweets? No problem, ignore them, or better still, smash up the jar & chuck 'em in the bin! I'm not sure how long the advanced rules will take me to write as I expect some of the rules will become fairly detailed. My best guess is another month or so. Thanks for the patience and continued interest in the project! Cheers! |
