Hi, I have questions about Harpoon Missile: In 5.2 AMTL Codex, it's written: Quote: Harpoon Missile: This special one-shot weapon possesses the ability to take control of enemy titans. The weapon is based on overriding the enemy pilot’s neural interface, so gargants, bio-titans and titans which are also Greater Daemons (e.g. the Lord of Battles) are immune to this weapon. When fired, pick a target within line of sight and it is hit automatically. Shielded targets will lose one shield. Units that do not possess a hit location template must save at –2 or be destroyed. If the target has a hit location template and no shields, pick a location and scatter normally. The location must save at –2 TSM or the harpoon has lodged itself successfully. A unit that has been harpooned must roll a D6 in each subsequent Orders Phase. On a 1 the missile falls out and the titan may be given orders as normal. On a 2+ the titan comes under the control of the player who fired the harpoon. Does harpoon missile work on: 1) Praetorians (as they now have a location template) 2) Eldar titans (Revenants, phantom, Warlock) 3) Necron Tomb Stalker and other titan class Necron units 4) Dark Eldars titan class units 5) Hordes of Evil Grave Digger titan 6) Imperator/Warmonger titan class 7) Tau Manta ![]() Thanks for your attention ![]() |

Can't say I've seen one of these used in a long time, but it is probably worth sorting it out. Perhaps it should be worded so that it "works against Imperial pattern titans (Warhound, Reaver, Warlord, Imperator). It will work against Imperial pattern titans in service with Chaos except where the titans also count as a Greater Deamon." As a thought, perhaps we could remove the one-shot thing too, so it is like a real harpoon. Any time it destroys a target, misses or falls out it can be retracted and fired again in the next turn? |

I totally agree with that ![]() Quote: As a thought, perhaps we could remove the one-shot thing too, so it is like a real harpoon. Any time it destroys a target, misses or falls out it can be retracted and fired again in the next turn? With a LOS range, I think we should not change the one-shot thing. Trident missile has a chain to be retracted but the range is limited to 25cm. Moreover, Harpoon missile can be picked in a warmonger or in deathstrike missile detachment, this would generate some problems IMO. |

I certainly don't use these. They are interesting but not worth losing a Titan weapon spot for. I can agree with all that has been said so far, it makes sense. How much is the Harpoon? Perhaps a price cut is in order or even limiting it's range and allowing the harpoon to be recoverable. Just a thought. |

Perhaps a price cut is in order or even limiting it's range and allowing the harpoon to be recoverable. Harpoon cost is 75 points and can be interesting to take control of small titans like warhounds. Trident missile with 25cm range costs 50 points, it ignores shields, can destroy superheavy/vehicule with a single hit ![]() As I mentionned, recoverable harpoon will be problematic for deathstrike batteries (even if I'm not sure any players pick something else than warp/barrage missiles for those units). |

Only Titans would have the ability to winch harpoons back in. The Warmonger would still be a problem. Maybe a limit on how many Titans can be controlled by any firing Titan? |

Quote: Maybe a limit on how many Titans can be controlled by any firing Titan? Yeah could be something like this the warmonger may target more than one titan but if it hits sucssefully more than one titan it has to choos which one it wants to control |

I gotta say, determining what units it can affect is important because I remember seeing one used in the past. Guy mounted it on a warlord and nailed an eldar warlock right off. Took control and turned every weapon he had on the infantry and vehicles at the feet of the titan. The main thing though is this: When fired, pick a target within line of sight and it is hit automatically. That "and it is hit automatically" combined with unlimited line of sight range is really frightening if used right at the start of a game because suddenly you frequently can turn your enemies biggest weapons against them right in the heart of their forces right at the start of the game. Now, I'm all for curtailing some of the open ended things created for Imperials (They already have so many more choices of units than any other race) But I do have to say, at 75 points I'm not sure that limiting it only to imperial template titans is entirely fair. Maybe lower the cost a bit if you limit it to only imperial titans. |
