DAMN! DAMN! DAMN! I just noticed I didn't put this in the Battles section. Sorry guys, D'uh! I guess shifting it over would break the pictures links?

Just a little something the new group of lads I hope to be playing regularly got up to on our first weekend. I was playing Chaos and my first opponent commanded the Tyranids. The special Tyrnaid VP rule was dropped as where Objectives. This would be an all out kill-a-thon.

No rest for the wicked L4.

TURN 1

The Chaos forces array themselves in a battle line formation, Fiends in the flanks, Horrors in the middle and Flamers in-between. Tyranids had already struck the first blow being the army I least wanted to face today and having done away with all my lovely Morale based special rules and cards.

That isn't a bacon roll, the Tyrnaids brought their own Bio-Mass.

The Tyranid Hive. The Alien Over Mind considers the obstacle in front of it and directs the swarms to the best tactical position. Looks like a strong centre with heavy centre/right wing massed artillery and left wing flanking force. Everything was headed for the centre.

The forces facing each other pause, a momentary lull in the storm about to erupt.

Indeed ...    Is that a Sub Sandwich in reserve on the left flank ?

@ L4: It's the GW new Tyranid Norn Queen, haven't you got one yet?

The Tyranids win the initiative and sticking with the attack plan Chaos sends it's minions to the central building. The Magi takes up residence while the fiends and Rhino's hold back. The Lictors infiltrate and charge forward but are happy lurking just behind the building.

The Tzeentch Daemon Engines scuttled forward in a crab like parody of their enemies.

The Fiends take to the flank and cowardly hide behind something big.

The Silver Towers protect the Alter of Slaanesh on the Left Flank behind their curtain of warp power.

The Dominatrix and her Broods dash for the centre.

The Exocrines and Tyrants advance while the Dactylis Brood grab some hemoroid clusters and prepare to throw.

The Tyranid left sets up for flank assault next turn. Be wery, wery qwuite... we're hunting wabbit, ah-hahaha.

I think the Silver Towers have your number pal.

The Biovores start doing their thing. Spores drop down among the Fiends but the results are negligible.

The Alter of Slaanesh sends out a wave of destruction that tears apart some of the Tyranid Brood.

The Dominatrix expends her shots taking down a Defiler and engaging her Warp Field for added protection. At least until it can figure out what the Chaos stuff can do.

The Warp Palace casts a Protection spell on the Alter but stays put. The Dactylus can't get their template on target and the Magi Mind Warps some Tyranid Infantry but only kills one. Some shots go back and fourth without much success and an Exocrine is evaporated by Magnus The Red before the turn ends.

Turn 2

The Tyranids won Initiative again and make Chaos move first. Perfect, I pull my Magi back out of harms way. He has to move his Compulsive units so I get to throw in my Horrors into the ruin.

The Lictors take up the challenge and the battlefield begins to orientate itself on this building as the focus.

The Harridan swoops low and disgorges a Brood of Gargoyles into the caldron.

Waiting their turn the Silver Towers and Alter soon Flank the Tyranid Flankers.

The Chaos centre stays still and the Warp Palace rolls a massive 8 power points this turn and still decides to stay still.

The cowardly Fiends on the Chaos Left slink into the ruins on the hill just hoping they cause the Tyrinid Dactylis some unnecessary worry. They don't intend to follow through on the charge, just to worry them.

More Biovore templates land near the Daemons in the centre and take out a fair amount of flamers. The Warp Palace kills the Harridan and turns it into a Spawn. It also puts a protecting 4+ fixed save on the Defilers and Magnus the Red.

Shots rage back and forth, the Dominatrix again settles for a Warp Field. The Magi Mind Warps again but does very little that I can recall. But then it's close combat time...

Time and time again the Lictors rip apart Pink Horror after Pink Horror. The ruins start to fill up with a sea of Blue Daemons. (I had gone over the Chaos Reward of Tzeentch on Horrors prior to stating so to his credit my opponent played like a true Tyranid and got stuck in regardless.

The exchange rate is pretty one-sided.

The second wave of the Gargoyles took a large toll of Daemons too.

At the turns end the ruins are still contested however as even more Pink Horrors spring up from the dead. The Mark of Tzeentch was working well, maybe I'd even admit a little too well.

The Dominatrix sustained a wound from Magnus which she failed to heal and I think another Exocrine became extinct but nothing much else occurred. I had by this point expended two - three Chaos Reward Cards on keeping my Warp Palace alive.

Turn 3

Tyranids yet again win the initiative. Undeterred my opponent fed in more of his troops to the hell caldron of the central ruins. unconcerned I left them to it (it was at this point I know that the Tzeentch Mark on Horrors was too much) and diverted my other Daemons. Flamers and Magi pulled back but still in range for mopping up and Mind Warping while the Fiends in support found better things to do like providing a screen for my Magi or as a drifting Biovore Spore screen for my Defilers.

The Queen and her Tyrants crest the hill on their Right trying to cause some ruckus in the Chaos lines. Genestealers would have dropped in amongst my lines but when I pointed out the arrive with Advance orders my opponent re-thought his plan and dumped them far from harm but strongly reinforcing the threat to my Left. My Fiends on top of the hill pull back.

The Haruspex mistakenly assault the Slaanesh Alter which being unpinned wanders away and proceeded by it's ever present Silver Tower protection pushes even deeper into the enemies back lines where the Biovores and Dactylis are.

Right a bit, left a bit. Perfectly lined up on those damn Biovores.

No Warp Field this turn, the Dominatrix blasts a Defiler into it's lowest common denominator despite the Warp Palaces' protective spells.

Biovores drop more Spores and lots of Pods drift all over the place but only a handful of Fiends or Flamers are removed. The Alter and Silver Towers wipe out a Dactylis and a couple of Biovores. Magnus causes the Dominatrix another wound. The Defiler kills a Tyrant and shrugs off it's own attacks with the help of the Warp Palace protection.

The worm finaly turns on the close combat and the growing number of Daemons begins to tell on the dwindling number of Tyranids.

The Advance Phase saw nothing much happen. Maybe an Exocrine died. The Dominatrix healed both it's wounds in the End Phase.

Very cool
This reminds me that we should probably add a new Silver Tower barrier template to NetEpic Gold. There's plenty of basic templates in the core rulebook, but there's some specialized ones that should probably be included in the army books.

Turn 4

The end is in sight... Chaos wins Inititive at last.

Genestealers crash in on the last Defiler, it kills a couple before they complete their charge and the Fiends rush in on a Chaos Card related suicide mission. The last Tyrant joins the part, more sauce for the goose. After the close combat a Fiend contracts a Plague which spreads to the Tyrinids and although the Defiler and two Fiends are gone they don't go alone making it a pyrrhic victory.

Every Last Dactylis and Biovore is wiped out by the Silver Towers and the Alter. And then...

Disaster! A total of six hits of pure Physical Psychic energy rip into the Warp Palace costing 12 Chaos Reward cards to shrug off (no saves made, not even one) and I only have 9 cards left. Bye, Bye Warp Palace you served your purpose well. The Dominatrix picked off some Fiends with it's Bio-Cannon and some Flamers with it's Cysts.

Revenge is swift as the Close combat finally see the ruins devoid of Tyranid life but one hell of a lot of Horrors.

Hah, take that you smelly bugs!

The Haruspex Brood charged a Pack of Fiends protecting the Chaos Right. The Fiends fell upon them and at the end only one of each remained.
