So, anyway... here I am trying to sort out a 6K Ork army and I find this V5 reject throwback sodding v5 rule slap bang in the nice new Gold Rules...

v5 rule and word for word in Gold.
Quote:

Pulsa Rokkit: These are huge rocket-shaped explosives that have a variable range. Each rocket carrier has one rocket and is therefore a one-shot weapon (so you get three shots per detachment). Pulsa Rokkits can only be fired when the detachment is on First Fire orders and only one rokkit per detachment may be fired per turn. The arc of fire is a narrow 30 degrees to the front of the rokkit. Range is 50 + (artillery die times 5) cm, with a Misfire indicating range zero – the firing unit hit itself. Once you have a landing point, scatter it 2D6 cm. Place the small Pulsa template (3 cm diameter circle) at the impact point. Roll 1D6 for the rokkit when it lands and consult the following table:

To fire, choose a number from 1 to 20 and roll that many D6's sum them together, add 50 cm and the total is the distance the rokkit travels. When the destination point is determined, roll for scatter as for an indirect barrage (Pulsa Rokkits always scatter). Place the small Pulsa template at the impact point Roll 1 D6 for the rokkit when it lands and consult the following:

Wow, well that's just great. Thank goodness I spent all that money and time tracking down a few batteries of these models on ebay in order to play these wonderful new rules[dripping sarcasm and disgust]. Was this rule even play tested or did someone just have a brain fart at the pub and wrote it into the rules. Jeeze!

Orks already pay 250 points to take these, this is an above average cost for normal artillery most being 200 points but the stats are quite good if chancy (another restriction, quite rightly though, very Orky). Oh, but now I have the privilege of wiping out my own back line on a 1 in 6 misfire chance per Rokkit launched. Hmmm, call me a sceptic but the odds aren't too appetising. Is someone's taking the pure and utter piss out of the Greenskins! Is this racism in NetEpic rearing it's ugly head? I blame those damn toffee nosed Space Marines personally, just how many different types of Land Speeder do they need anyway, bunch of wankers! (And I mean that in a Non-Racist way).  :alien:

hmm, and I was always wondering why anyone would take them. The older version seems to make more sense, I agree.

There were a few rule changes made to Orks that made them a bit more self destructive than they were in the SM2 days.  I'm not much of a fan of the changes either.  We caught and removed some of them for the updated V5 rules but didn't notice the Pulsa Rokkit change.  I prefer the original rules (though rolling that many dice can be messy).  Perhaps keep the artillery dice but on a missfire the rokkit just doesn't launch that turn?

Of course, someone is going to have to ask WMN really nicely if he'll make the change to his all but complete Ork Gold book

:oo:

:sulk: Weeeell, I don't do nice... you may have noticed. Remember to let me know how you get on mate.

Besides, I already posted about the Greater Daemon/Armour save thing so... uh, I choose life.

EDIT: PM sent with both requests. I'll be smoking a turd in purgatory for this though.

An Observation: I love how all the new guys who don't know me round here are like   Oooo, he's really angry and stuff. They just don't get me yet do they?

Hello good sir, might I direct your attention to a few humble requests... um, please not the face!

Sorry for the trouble.

Cheers, Jim...

Hehe, Alright. I'll punch you in the stomach instead :D

No seriously: Both are very valid points. If both are approved by Zap (who is the one with the final word regarding rules: I just do the layout) they should be implemented when we do the very last round of eratta. For the time being the books remain as they are while I finish the last army books (To avoid having 10 different versions of the same book floating about on the net, and also so I don't get distracted from getting remaining books done) :)

These kind of things are however exactly the sort of things that I would have liked people to have sorted out BEFORE the formatting started, as changing large paragraphs of text can be a royal pain in the A** once everything has been squeezed into the layout. If possible could you (and everybody else for that matter) have a good look at the remaining 5.2G rule documents so we can minimize these sort of changes in the future? It saves me a whole lot of hassle if these things are caught and changed before I copy the text to the Gold format  :upside:

So after being punched in the belly and getting a ticking off for being a lazy twat I got the go ahead to approach the mighty Zap.

Ok, Zap, what's the verdict on the Pulsa's and the Greater Daemon armour/hit rules? Either  :agree:  or  :disagree:

Pulsa Rokkits were nicely balanced already....self destructing is too much of a penalty.  Do we go with 20xD6 or use the artillery dice but a Missfire just means they don't fire?

GD thing is just clearing up wording to avoid confusion, not a change to the rules.

I'm ok with both changes/corrections.

The most satisfying to me would be Misfire = didn't fire this turn. That way you gain nothing but lose nothing.

I can't wait to tell our Marine player the good news about the Greater Daemons, maybe I should wait until were playing. Hmmm...

I know I am a cheeky pain in the ass when I get started but I console myself knowing that a countable generation of player will one day hardly realise what I have done here today. That, is payment enough.

Seriously though, Thanks Zap and WMN. Can I go back to my cave now?
