Hi,

i got a quick question, maybe somebody can help me with. Can companies transported by a leviathan
fire out of it, or is this only possible when riding a capitol imperialis?

As it's not stated in the rules, companies inside a Leviathan can not fire out anymore. Only infantry stands can fire out from a Capitol Imperialis. In the old SM/TL rules, even artillery companies inside a CI could fire out :p

I don't know too...Maybe keeping some IG assault stands inside protection to disembark them for the 2nd or later turn ?

If it hadn't been for the brilliant idea of sorting the regimental Command ability of the Leviathan then this would be yet one more sucky doesn't work much item on the long list of crap to be avoided. The transport thing does not work, don't believe otherwise. You'll only regret it when you try it for yourself.

I too think that Leviathans should get a rule that troops could shoot out from it
perhaps not a full company, I guess someone could make something like the pointdefence for all transport vees that says how many shots might be fired out of the transport (if any). Would add another dynamic to the game ^_^

Well, I just upped the weapons to overkill mode! I like them just fine now. my opponents hate em' but I treat them as a Regimental Command in all things. So only one per army. Same with the Imperialis.

However, I've been thinking of using the Imperialis and maybe the Leviathan as a mobile airbase ever since reading Abnetts Double Eagle and some of the Tanith series. Hmmm?  :cool:  :flyboy:

I don't think I've ever seen a Leviathan used as anything other than a huge gun fortress by IG players.  It is smashingly awesome at it under NE rules, while in the old TL days it just used to get swarmed by Jetbikes etc and destroyed.

I have seen Squats use the Ironbreaker one as a slow transport for the Berserkers.

But surely they could have walked further quicker,, even with their stumpy little legs and their arses dragging along.

EDIT: It says it fits up to a company in the rules. Nothing about aircraft not allowed. Unless there was some sort of special bonus, it wouldn't make much difference what was inside these things anyway.

I have used the iron-breaker on a couple of occasions. For me the reason was getting the leviathan on a company card instead of special card and also just trying it out.

I would welcome a * rule about the leviathan making them and the transported items not loose any movement when debarking. Now its plain silly unless you see the leviathan a way of protecting your troops.

Berserkers move 20 cm on change. So with the leviathan push it would become 10+20-5-5=20 Impressive eyy?

In the case of the landtrain (and also hellworm) I spot this in the rulebook.

I agree in the case on the gorgon somewhat but the gorgon can actually charge. So it still gives the infantry a 10 cm push. (still crappy yes) The leviathan only has 10 cm move.

I have never seen a landtrain on charge cause then it cant shoot but I guess that its not used for transporting troops to the fray either.

A solution to this could be that superheavies and pratorians in general do not loose movement if troops disembark. Not sure if this would be good though.

I upped the Gorgon to 15cm (at no additional points cost) as anything lower isn't effective for any assault transport no matter how well protected. Otherwise in assaults you will be lucky to get near to the front lines before the game is called due to time.

For the Land Train, I toyed with the idea of when it gets to a certain size, say above 4 carriages then it becomes a Praetorian for orders, point defence, movement etc but has no damage table. (Just like the Dominatrix it has a save, depending on what part is targeted... although I have made a damage table for my Dominatrix but that's another issue). When the engine gets destroyed or when there are only four carriages or less it reverts back to being a superheavy unit. Surely an increase in size is what dictates the size class. Just saying.

I think the Iron Breaker Leviathan should get some sort of sensor boost that it shares with the other Praetorians in the Company. Something to allow them to use it's LOS for artillery targeting or something. Like a Data-Link or Network. The guard have fitted a command suit so it makes sense. Oh, goody. Another crazy idea.

I have used the train a few times but I have very few times actually seen it being destroyed. Not sure I like this idea. Giving it an extra power for the same cost. I mean its still a great unit.

Not sure what you mean here. There is only one praetorian in the company card. There could be more praetorians though from other cards. The idea of spotting for each other sounds fair enough. Maybe like a forward observer cutting scattering to half. To me this ability sounds quite likely in all vehicles that are praetorian & titan. I mean there must be dozens of crewmen there, cant anyone of them wear a radio like a forward observer. They should have advanced equipment in there. But on the other hand, I cant really say that anything about it is broken now sooo. If it aint broken - Dont fix it.

Whoops, it's been a while since playing Squats. I forgot the Iron Breaker is the Infantry/Praetorian combo. I was meaning the Leviathan and Cyclops company, please disregard.

The Landtrain is easy meat when hit by Gutbusters or similar. It's just a superheavy with some shields. I always find it to be unwieldy and hard to get into range without being picked on.
