Hi,

in his excellent BatRep SW vs. Eldar Warhead brought up the question whether or not the change of the Long Fang BP was made on purpose.

Since nobody answered, I put it here.

I love playing Space Wolves, but since the two opponents in my vicinity play Orcs and Eldar, I only field them every other game, they tend to get blown to pieces mucho by the Eldar. (Not that my DA would fare any better, but that's another topic  :sigh: )

So, I think a Break Point of 6 (or maybe 4 for the stands, not counting the Rhinos) would be great and make them considerable again.)

What do you think?

cheers

sanjuro

Thanks Sanjuro,

Glad you liked the SW report. They shall return... with their mates.

Unsurprisingly my vote is for keeping Long Fangs as they came originally. They were restricted by unit size and range so that you got close combat devastators... sort of... who weren't as good... as Devestators. Those restrictions with the cost (a fair cost so don't dare mention making changes here) is all that is required. To take away the BP6 IMO broke the unit for Space Wolf players.

In all the fluff they are also Veteran Marines too and so it seems to me right that they should also be hard to break. I was dismayed on seeing the change. (Oh noes! Yet another change to the unit compositions I can't agree with, E-gad! shock, horror!)
I solved the problem by ignoring the change... so unlike me.

However, I supose I should be reasonable and at least try not to antagonise anyone who thinks that the Long Fangs are too good. (Booh-Hoo... sorry)

I got to say it is hard to break them (Obviously) so I might be persuaded on a card limit in number but I have only ever used three packs at any one time.

OR

I would be willing to haggle the BP for Fearless?!.. Hmm?.. Hmm?.. well?..

OR

Up the number of attacks to three?.. (Oops, so much for reason)

I think the Long Fangs are one of the things that make S.Wolves hard to play.  I'd have no problem making them BP 4 (ignoring the Rhinos), or indeed changing them back to a detachment of 6 without Rhinos and with a BP of 6.

Oooo, the six per pack sounds nice... How much?

Yeah, I would be happy with any of these changes.

I actually like them being a smaller, slightly more expensive unit, but that should translate to something, like a higher break point, since they lack range

Ok, just dug the original cards.  So, I figure there's no reason not to just give the detachment as it currently stands a break of 6 as it always had.  I'd guess this was just an oversight.  This is probably the best option as it doesn't muck up existing unit sizes which I know is an issue for a certain vocal member here  :vD.  I'll just add it to the errata for Gold.

Hey sanjuro! I think he's meaning you mate... are you gonna' take that?.. I dunno', you even helped fix a glaringly obvious and silly mistake and you got no thanks. Tsk! Oh, the humanity of it all...

Oops, I forgot to mention and it was very ungracious of me to forget...

Thanks Zap.  :agree:
