I wanted to know if the persons who originally created the Hordes of Evil army book are members of the board ? I have started creating and painting my hoe army and I have some suggestions to improve the list (adding at least a AA unit and eventually a big flier) :)

I suspect they are still on the NetEpic Yahoo group, but I'm not sure they come here.  I've cleaned up some of the errors for a Gold version, and have done my own Evil army too.  I find they are ok against aircraft if you use the Alternate Flyer rules.

:wow:

I like all army lists. The more the better. This is cool stuff.  :ghost: Zap that army is top totty.
I liked the HoE in v4 too, looking forward to the new version. Only thing I would change personally, the Headless Horsemen name to Nightmares... it's a Warlords III Darklords Rising thing.

Thanks Zap,

could you explain me how they could handle fliers with the Amended fliers rule ? I do not see in the list some turreted weapons or some infantery with long range weapons (that could shot fliers at high altitude).

Here is the start of my army:

Lich Lord

Mummies:

Headless Horsemen

Skeletons (from Kallistra)

Bone Golems

My personal vision of the gravedigger titan, equiped with 2 "chainsaws". I'll start painting it tonight, :

@warhead, I appreciate the headless horsemen name, it reminds me the movie "Sleepy Hollow" :)

  Bloody Hell Scream,

When you have made an army look this good you can name it what you like. My lord these are well done. I want one!..
:p

Yeah ok, I liked Sleepy Hollow too. Johny Depp makes me laugh.

Excellent stuff.

And Sleepy Hollow is excellent, thus the reference is that as well.

Hmmmm....you're right....they suck against flyers.  The last game I played with them was a long time ago and I remember Ork Fighters blowing up everywhere....but I guess they must have been self-destructing!  An AA weapon is definitely in order.

Those mummies are heaps better than the crappy Irregular 6mm ones I used.  I recognise 1 Warmaster figure....where'd the rest come from?

Are the skels all 10mm?

All the minis (except the WHB Tomb King Scorpion) are 10mm, finding some beautiful 6mm fantasy range is just too hard.

- Skeletons are from Kallistra, I need a lot of them and they are really cheaper than GW ones.
- The numerous mummies are from Pendraken, mummies with a blade and sarcophagus are from GW (Warmaster Tomb Kings Characters blister)
- The other minis (cavalry, Bone Golems...) are from GW Warmaster range (Chaos, Undead and Vampire counts)

This is just the start of the army, the army is already collected and will surely reach ~10000 points.

Here are 2 profiles I have created:

Winged Nightmare (floater)

Name: Winged Nightmare Special Card (Greater Undead)
BP: Winged Nightmare
Moral: -
VP: 3
Cost: 250

The Winged Nightmare is a terrifying flying dragon. It counts a floater for movement and as a superheavy for combat, but does not benefit from the superheavy damage table. Its ranged attack is called the Dark Fire. When using the Dark Fire, place the large teardrop template so its sharp point touches the front arc of the miniature. Any unit at least half covered by the template is engulfed in a fiery breath and suffers a hit on 4+, ignoring cover.

Winged Nightmares have developed a psychic bind to control lesser creatures of darkness known as haunting bats. They gather in swarms of countless members and shroud the monster. These bats can be used to attack a distant unit or to protect a Winged Nightmare from enemies. Each Winged Nightmare can control up to 6 bat stands but if the Nightmare is killed, the bats are removed from the battlefield as they return to their natural instincts and flee.

A haunting bats stand is attached to a Winged Nightmare and stays in contact with the monster at all times, unless it is sent to attack an enemy. Some stands may launch an attack while others protect their master.

When the Winged Nightmare is killed, it crashes 3D6 in a random direction. Any model under the crash site suffers an automatic hit and must make an unmodified save to survive.

Winged Nightmares are Greater Undead. They receive orders normally and can launch bat swarms attacks at any point during their movement without loosing 5cm worth of movement.

Winged Nightmare 30cm max  1+ +7 Dark Fire Template - 4+ -2 Floater, superheavy, Special Greater Undead
Bats Assault Special

Haunting bats 6 stands

Haunting bats stands stay in base contact with the Winged Nightmare unless they are ordered to attack.

Haunting bats can be used in the following way each turn:

- Attack: In the movement phase, during the Winged Nightmare activation, the bats stand moves and attacks an enemy unit up to 20cm away, ignoring rules for coherency. A close-combat round is taken in the appropriate segment, bats having +2 CAF. Target unit must pass a morale check or suffers a -2 CAF penalty. Bats can be snap fired during their movement but due to the speed of those death birds, assaulting bats are hard-to-hit when assaulting. Bats are skimmers and count as infantry for pinning purposes. Several bats stands can engage the same target if need be. In the End Phase, surviving bats stands are replaced in base to base contact with their Winged Nightmare Master.

- Shield: bats can sometimes act as a living shield against impacts and incoming enemies. When a Winged Nightmare is hit by a ranged weapon, haunting bats stands are used as an all-around shied. Hit is directed to a bats stand that can roll for save armour (6+). If bats armor save roll failed, bats stand is killed but no injury is done to its master. Moreover, if at least one bats stand is in contact with the Winged Nightmare, it can not be surrounded in close combat.

Haunting Bats 20cm  6+ +2 - - - -  - Hard to hit, skimmer, Special

Bone Splitters (Greater Undead)

Name: Bone Splitters Support Card (vehicule)
BP: 2
Moral: 3+
VP: 3
Cost: 250

Bone Splitters are vehicules that throw high velocity bones fragments to the air, they are used as anti-aircraft vehicules.

10cm 4+ +1 Bones Launchers 75cm 3 5+ -2 AA, Greater Undead

I like both of these additions. Obviously I like the Nightmare name too. What models are you using?

Bone Spitter looks good.

Winged Nightmare I'm not so sold on.  What's the point of making it Superheavy if it doesn't get the save?  The Haunting Bats thing is too messy for mine as well.  Bats are fast?  They cause terror?  Skimmers but count as infantry for pinning?  And are Void shields as well?

The last thing this list needs is another super complicated unit full of special rules.  I'd suggest just the Winged Nightmare, floater + Superheavy (does get the save), no Bats, 200 points.

My 2c.

The winged nightmare rule for the bats is quite complicated, it's true, but it's funny :) I wanted to get a use of my bats stands. If the bats stay in base contact with their master, they act as a void shield (but do not regen) or they can be "launched" during movement to a CC attack.

Another thing, could the Warmaster Undead carrions be fliers ?

Something quite simple:

Dark Birds (Greater Undead)

Name: Dark Birds Support Card (fliers)
BP: 2
Moral: 3+
VP: 3
Cost: 250

Dark Birds are giant dead flying vultures. Their special attack use the large teardrop template and can only affect living things. This attack ignore covers. Dark Birds are considered fliers and follow the full rules for units of this type.

90cm 4+ +3 Howling Shout  template - 4+ -1  Greater Undead

@Zap: I did not tell it before but I appreciate your Hoe army :)

I like the bat/shield idea and don't think it's much more difficult than some other big pieces in other armies. It's also a nice idea that I've never thought of or seen used.
For me these differences are what give a unit character and style. It's sometimes what attracts you to play a certain race over another. In fact I would keep the bat/shields and give it a Superheavy damage table roll too. However, I don't know the background on this unit too well so will leave that up to you.
I've read over it again but may still have missed it. Why not have the Nightmare cause terror or fear. (Instead of the bats) It sounds to me like it would.

My issue is that it does too many things.  Units/bits that are too versatile are a) potentially unbalancing and/or b) hard to cost.  I would think the whole unit as originally written would need to be a lot more expensive.  Some of it also doesn't make logical sense (and yes, I know it is a sci-fi game  :vD ).  Fast, terror causing, skimmer but inescapeable, immunity from damage granting units does not fit my pre-conception of bats.  I'd like to see it much simplified.

Carrion as a unit would be cool.  I think they'd have movement more akin to a Harridan though, not a Thunderbolt.
