Hello Folks...

After registering on the forum a few weeks back, I have actually found an opponent near me. Good to be back in business! Two games so far- managed to lose both, albeit not by much.

I am now enjoying painting again too, and trawling e-bay for items. One thing I hear time and again however is: "selling up because I can't get a game". I can certainly see the need for NetEpic- to keep the best system (ie based on 2nd edition) alive- Epic Armageddon looks about appealing as a conversation with the contestants of Big Brother.

Anyway, there's life in the game yet. Current project is a force of space marines, with an eye to also securing some classic titans (a company of 3 reavers would be a destructive little addition). Any pointers recommended...

Uh, cheers for comparing my fave game to a reality tv show, without even trying it first.

We don't see as there's a need to look down on each others' choice of game on this forum with Netepic versus E:A flames.

Welcome to the board, anyway.

Hi!

I can appreciate your point - I don't think Ill be playing any time soon, cause noone else around here (Stockholm, Sweden btw) is interested. To be honest I was always more into the painting bit anyway, but a couple of games would definitely be great, even if only as a oneoff thing.

As it happens I also tend to be way too perfectionst about it - I want all my minis well painted, and a gaming table with well made terrainpieces, etc. According to some, Ive a fascist tendency in this respect

I disagree about E:A though - IMO these rules seem to have some good ideas, and 2d ed, as I remember it, was not perfect. For instance, distinguishing anti-tank from antipersonel weapons (a feature that was present in the 1 ed rules, btw). But Ive never played EA, so remains to be seen how well it all works. I would love to play the same forces on the same board first on NE then directly afterwards on EA rules. Some of the guys on this board probably have. Would love to hear their opinions.

The real mistake was in my mind epic 40K, a game I actually had a chance to try - it had become way too abstract.

I could probably go on forever... Anyway hope you enjoy the game, and don't hesitate to show off your painted minis!

Forgot to mention: Reavers are still available from GW/specialist games online store, so are the classic space marine infantry (most of them anyway, not the vehicles though, they have been replaced)!

Hey Dominic,

Good to hear you managed to get an opponent hooked. I suspect your keeping them sweet for now by throwing a few games, eh?  :;):

From what I have seen EA doesn't immediately appeal to me either but (I too still get flash backs from epic 40K) I would however gladly learn and play any tabletop so long as I had a challenging opponent to play against. The guys who do play EA seem to enjoy it and they certainly seem to have a lot to discus on the boards so good luck to them.

Topics and groups eligible for slagging are 40K and Games Workshop policies... oh and people who consistently role 1's when playing... did I miss anyone?  :sulk: (Hey, these are observations I have made while viewing the threads)

Reavers eh? I personally don't like the new ones that are being flogged by GW (the Warhound... maybe) so personally I would wait it out with eBay and hope for the best. Some EA players may be updating to the new Reavers at some point and might be willing to trade... so perhaps keeping in with them is perhaps tactically sound, hmmm?

However don't despair. Just enjoy the game and if your painting again get some pictures posted. Same goes for any Battle Reports you care to do. (What?.. I'm nosey and like to see what other players are getting up to).  :))

Warhead: I may have misunderstood something, but the reavers currently available from GW seem to actually be the original late 80s version. Some time ago they must have given up the updated version (Im guessing simply cause it was too darn ugly):

Theyve apparently done the same with the eldar phantom. Smart move, as these are some of the finest they ever made (by Jes Goodwin I think). It seems most guys on ebay havent noticed, as reavers and phantoms both are still advertised as "oop" there.

Although ebay may well be somewhat cheaper!

You'll find Ebay way cheaper for almost everything....and there are an awful lot of Reavers in circulation!  Warhead was probably referring to the Forgeworld Reaver which is a different pattern/design (and resin not metal).

On E:A, it has some neat concepts that mirror reality (like suppression and command & control failures) that NetEpic doesn't really have, and is a decent generic set of rules (if you don't mind every unit being able to move further in a turn than they can shoot I suppose)....kinda a sci-fi Warmaster.  On the other hand, it is missing a lot of the things NetEpic has too.  I tried it for a while and it was definitely not to my taste.  People who didn't play Epic in the SM2 days, and people who play 40K seem to like it ok though.

*Weeeeee.... plop!* Once again Warhead missed the target.

Oops. I dun' it again. Good job I don't have a carrier that commands authority and respect... oh, wait. I do... Oh Bugger.

Hey, wait. If you don't have to trade for Reavers does that mean you are free to slag off EA players then?..

Welcome back.  8v)

Brother-Captain Parzval - if we build a swedish network we could be making wekends playing. And a weekend playing is worth some travelling, right?
