Attached are my rules for recon units. I use this for Campaigns but it can also be used in one off games too. I was also thinking about allowing for prelimary bombardment rules but couldn't come up with a fair way to represent it in the game so left it out. Thought of (-3cm to artillery scatter for the first turn only) due to pre-sighting however most units will have moved on the first turn so should it apply? |

One problem I saw is D6 result 3. According to the setting up table you've chosen sides before getting to the recon phase, so this result can't work as worded. The card system for "hidden" deployment is interesting. How do you handle splitting detachments from company cards? We generally use the I draw, you place system. We also only use standard objective counters these days...the SM2 variable ones we found pretty unbalancing except in really large games. |

Hey Zap, Good catch with the wording of result 3, thanks. It should read... Your scouts have located a favourable battleground in the area of the enemies advance. You may re-arrange or remove xD3 terrain pieces before deployment. Some terrain may be essential to the scenario and may not be affected. Most Company Cards have their own separate Detachment cards represented too. HQ's are more difficult when sticking to using official Epic cards however. There is no reason why you have to stick with cards. I have in the past used bits of paper with numbers on the front. Each number is pre-recorded by the player before deployment and refers to a detachment. Playing an Assault scenario this is what you do anyway. SM2 variable objectives are great for campaign games though. In some games I like to give some small rewards in order to justify the mission objectives too. The Rescue Objectives gain the army a new Character or Special Card like the Eldar Master Mime or IG Assassin for use on another battle. Capture Objective gains a one off bonus to the capturing detachment either during or after battle. While the Assault Objective provides the enemy a limited artillery spotter ability from the Objective until it is destroyed in an assault. In one off games then the normal objectives are probably more balanced but not as unpredictable as the variables. |

Yeah, they would be fun in campaigns. Alas, haven't played an Epic campaign for a lot of years. Might have to see what we can do about that. ![]() |

While TacComm was down I had a look at the Aussie Epic Campaign site that Cthulhu gump runs. Battle-tastic! Thing looks like a blast. I've been thinking of posting the results of the last Campaign in the NetEpic Battle Report section. Very few photo's but I could reconstruct the scenes and I still have all the results and fluff etc on computer, what do you think? If you round some players up then why not do the same? |

There was much madness around here for the first Aussie Gencon, so now that's been and gone perhaps some serious Epic gaming can get underway again. My problem with a campaign was I was building so many new armies last year that I rarely played the same force 2 games in a row, but things have slowed a little this year. Still have to finish my 'Nids, AMTL and PDF though ![]() |

Well that's the car packed and I'm almost off on Holiday but had to get one more TacComm fix before I go. perhaps some serious Epic gaming can get underway again. I have a cunning plan... (or a brain fart) Is there currently or has there ever been any way to do a campaign between players in different countries? Would this be of interest to you or others here? Would it be possible? If possible, How? Any ideas, anyone? |
