The revision starts, according the forum archives, around feb-march 2002. Of course there are several previous months that have a lot of discussion too.

Of course, definite dates are hard because we didn't use the "5.0" disgnations on posts until later and then it also tapered off later on.

The main discussion period comprehends a 18 month period of heavy posting and polling ending somewhere in 2003. However more polls and tweaking has occurred as late as 2004. All told the true time is some were between 20 months on the low end and 28 months on high end.

I didn't think it lasted that long either, but one day I just checked out the forum archives and looked around, I was shocked on how much posting, and the time it spanned.

It was truly a herculean task.

Why not creating a special chapter for theses ? It could be added in the optional rule book with special units.

No thunderhawk, No Drop pods, No bikes company. The vindicator & pred companies may replace the standard 9° & 10° companies.

Yikes, no Thunderhawks... not sure if many will be attracted to that... even for tanks with a better BP. Still, it sounds like a step in the right direction.

I had been thinking in terms of the Tyranids... bare with me on this one a moment longer. The tyranids have various stages of conquest. Stage One is Invasion, Stage Two is Infestation, Stage three is Annihilation, Stage four is Consumption... or something like that, the point is they have stages. Now, I see in EA they have divided the Tyranid lists into these staged categories. What has this to do with Space Marines, well surely they would have an Invasion stage with pods, thunderhawks and fast attack units... light but highly swift and effective. Conquest may be more of an armoured assault, pragmatic and relentless and able to take as well as dish out punishment... this is were I see the Tank Companies belonging. ...And the last stage could be siege defence or siege breaking... but both of the categories could be used to fit. (Siege Defence/Invasion stage and Siege Breaking/Conquest Stage..?)

I wanted to keep it general so any Space Marine army could adopt the tactic, but I guess this would not fit with many of the established SM Chapters covered in NetEpic that I know the background to... the ones I don't know..?

Anyway, this is how I had imagined the new tank Companies would fit in a Chapters tactics. However, if it is felt that this would not be Codex Space Marine then there is no other option than to make it a choice for certain Chapters only...

...has anyone given any thought to the idea in one of the 40K SM Codex books to making your own Chapter with bonus skills and inhibitors?.. I can't remember which one it's in. Then people could create and name their own Chapter (always good for fluff) but the lists would still be legal because of the min/max of units and the bonus inhibitors. Anyway, that may be a discussion for another time, interesting none the less.

I adressed all the points we all agreed on here in the discussions, as well as the errata from the documents on the wikiwikiwar, netepic.org, and yahoonetepic group. Seems like Warmaster Nice had an outdated file to work with. I am confident that it will all be there when he loads up the revised version of gold.

(except the bike thing, I'm afraid. iirc the two of us were the only ones in favour for stronger marine bikes    )
