In the old Stomper box you got 16 Chaos Androids which are super proxies for Necrons (and probably where the Necron idea came from). ?They are stupidly hard to get now days though. ?DRM Andrayada are the next best thing. ?Others have used suitable painted Orc boyz, Warp Spiders/Dark Reapers/Mk3 Guardians quite successfully too (everything looks Necron if you undercoat it black and drybrush it silver!!!!). ?There have been a couple of people on these boards making things that can be turned into a pretty good Monolith, and most of the other units can be converted....40K Scarabs will come in handy. ?For C'Tan use....C'Tan :)

Forgeworld make Epic Tau.

OK, need to resurrect this and turn it into a playable list.  One idea I did have was to take the old Tau Vector concept (knight class unit with multiple gear options via "cards") and make this a Necron unit to give them some punch in the big unit end of town?

Hi!

That sounds pretty cool!

Options are always great, go for it!

Ok, I've uploaded a copy of an updated Necron Army list over on the Yahoo NetEpic group site.  It has no fluff or unit descriptions in it yet, just the basics....stats, army cards and special rules.  I have added the Tomb Stalker titan with Template too.

Looking for feedback particularly on the detachment and company costs.  I ended up going with detachment sizes of 6/3 basically for no better reason than it matched the E:A list.

The Monolith is hella expensive, and the "mechanised" company is an enormous amount of points.  However this is apotential 1st turn win army.....if you had 2 of the mechanised companies you could be putting a full detachment of Necrons + Superheavy on 6 objectives first turn (and picking up the 2 closest with some foot sloggers) so I am concerned about this being an old Marine-style cheese-list army.

It is a pretty skinny list sticking strictly to cannon units.  Feedback about possible additional units also helpful.

Hi!

Why not make them like tyranids, no VP's for objectives and thus sidestep the issue?

Can't say I know anything much about Necrons, but this seems a good, interesting army list.  Seems to have enough unit types to make a decent and varied army; no need to complicate it with many more options (and inevitable conversions).

When I'm feeling richer I may be tempted to make this my 3rd army. I like it.

Ah...inspired.  That's the perfect solution!

I don't see the problem with objectives, could someone explain?

Here is another bunch of comments in no particular order:

- I'm for a fixed save instead of this We'll Be Back stuff. Same effects, less rules.
- For the same reason, I'm for a mere -1 TSM  for Gauss weapons instead of special rules. I don't see the problem of Necron troops removing void shields, other basic troops in the game (Chaos SM for example) are able to do the same.
- The Battle Barge, Aeonic Orb and Abbatoir could be added (The two last are parts of E:A list, the Battle Barge is an idea GW produced a concept art for. Moscovian created one). So we could have a bunch of Praetorians here, the Tomb stalker not being the most clever.
- There's room for a knight-class Necron, between the Necron warrior and the Necron titan. Tomb guard or something. I thought of OOP Necron immortals (40K scale) to represent them. OOP Necron warriors would work too. It would just add some variety in the armor department.

I see Phase Out differently too. Necron support cards could add to the break point of their respective companies (ala Ork Klans) and all should have a 75% break point instead of the usual 50%. But when the company + support is broken, then poof! Everything vanishes. Well, phases out.

I'll create an updated list with those ideas.

Most of this has gone before. ?At this stage really looking for comments on cost and composition (and playtests would be great). ?Extra units where needed is worth a chat though. ?Specifics -

- 4000 points. ?I have 2 companies of Necrons in Monoliths....that's 6 detachments of regenerating bad guys that Deep Strike.....so I snatch all 8 objectives in compulsory movement phase first turn and concentrate all my fire on something that will give up 5VPs....end of turn 1 I win. ?Obviously not quite as easy to pull off as typing this, but a real risk.
- did toss up the idea of the fixed save, but it isn't really the same thing at all. ?Giving everything a fixed save would take some uncertainty out of playing against Necrons, and would help lower their costs a little, but it does lack flavour. ?I think most of us play NetEpic for the flavour, but I'm not wedded if consensus is fixed save. ?I like the Regen option personally as it makes having a shooting match with Necrons a loosing proposition (though Tau players probably wont be happy :) )
- I purposely left out the Abbatoir, Aeonic Orb and I guess you meant Warbarque. ?All are non-cannon.  The first I really don't like and has no real place on a battlefield except maybe as an objective, and the second seems silly and unecessary (given Pylons). ?I liked the Warbarque but according to the E:A list this was totally the creation of Moscovian with no cannon value at all. ?Having said that, and seeing there is possibly a model available it could be a goer. ?The Tomb Stalker is cannon, but I'm happy to see a better design....I used the old "Necron" Thanatos and updated the template so you could use a 40K Tomb Spider as the model.
- AFAIK Necron big stuff is strictly anti-grav, so I've gone off the idea of a giant two legged Knight. ?Given the Monolith is a Superheavy I'm not sure there's a need either. ?Maybe the Warbarque as an upgraded Monolith could fill the void.
- Problem is if you have regeneration and a 75% break point the points cost would need to be horrendous. ?Could playtest I guess, but I'd imagine the Necrons would be massively outnumbered.
