This is what a 40k Scythed Hierodule looks like for inspiration:

Hello all

Well, true to form I got distracted by other projects and my Tyranids pretty much fell by the wayside for a while (although I have been picking at them off an on when ever the mood took me). Then a couple of weeks ago a friend expressed an interest in playing some epic, so that has re-inspired me to crack on with the army. The bulk of the infantry is now completed, with just a couple of warrior broods left to base.

Heres a few pics of whats done so far.

The whole horde.

Couple of Hormagaunt broods - there are 4 broods altogether

Some Genestealer - again 4 broods in total

Gargoyles - 4 broods

Warrior brood - 2 Broods are completed, 2 other just waiting for basing.

Overall I am really happy with how they turned out.

At this point I would like to give a massive shout out to Man of Kent for showing me what was possible with a bit of effort, and whos technique I have shamelessly stolen.

Still plenty of larger nid stuff left to do, but I really feel that with the infantry done the back of the task has well and truly been broken.

Cheers

They look great!

How are the bases done? To me it looks like you've clipped off the small round bases on the minis and glued them onto coins, but that seems very unstable to me. So I think you've done something else?

Hi guys

Thanks for the kind replies, I am glad you like them. Hopefully they will impress my friend, who wants a game, enough to convince him to start collecting himself!

@Ulrik - They are based on coins, I didn't cut the whole base off the figure but I did cut both sides of the figures base off so they were left with a strip rather than a circle. Because the coins aren't counter-sunk like the original epic bases they did stick up quite a bit, which meant I had to apply 2 layers of sand to each coin to cover the figures base. Hope that makes sense, I have the 2 broods of warriors left to base so if you want I will take some pictures when I do it to help explain better.

Cheers

Thanks for the tips! I think I got the gist of it pretty well.

Of course, pictures are always nice! But if it's a hazzle it's not that necessary.

That is a great start indeed. For Zoats, I used a Warmaster Dragon Ogre, a Minotaur torso and a Genestealer head.

For Brooder, I did what someone else suggested, used the old metal 40K Rippers.

Pics can be found in my log (Zoat & Brooder @ bottom of page 7)

Cheers,
Fredmans
