Oh, and I can try and mock up a Chaos Hunter using Nik's non-ordered Nashorn and a Hunter launcher, and do up a Zulu and renegade Psyker if no one has a photo.  I have some standard "pre-heresy" Drop Pods too, though I'd be surprised if no one has them already done.

Right. While I wait for the updated word file I'd like some feedback on the draft layout.
I've tried to go for a more gloomy feel than the previous books but obviously this also affects readability. I was just wondering how people feel about the cracks in the background image. They do obscure single letters from time to time. Personally I tend to ignore it while reading (the mind has a way of recognizing the words by their overall shape rather than actually spelling its way through them) but how do you feel?

Also I've got a few candidates for the unit boxes. The Khorne ones are medium gray which is a bit tricky since both black and white text can be said to have problems. Of course it is possible to add a bit of background shadow to the white text. but it may not be so bad that it is a real problem. Then there's the Nurgle boxes which go for an altogether darker look with white text. (please disregard the uneven borders: This is just a color test).

Also please bear in mind that there are differeces between how this may look onscreen and on print.

I think you should tone down the stone background. In several spots the black cracks obscure type and generally affect readability. The same goes for the unit boxes, maybe give them a old parchment background with darker edges so that the text area toward the center can support black type without becoming difficult to read.

I'd HIGHLY recommend you avoid shadowing on large blocks of text, it makes it very difficult on the eyes to read and comes out a little blury on small body copy when printed.

I have a couple of KoS painted if you need them.

I have made the Hunter, but it uses Nik's "non-ordered nashorn" as the base with the GW hunter turret on top.  Can we include it?  Can put together a FW AA Gun for the Zulu and will find my Psyker.

You could just use one of the pics of the original plastic Chaos dread suitably painted for the Shambler.  I think I included one in my batch of photos.

I don't really see how there should be any problems using a pic of any of Niks, Ottermans or E&Cs models. They're not a competing company or mixing any IP, but simply talented individuals who have made some excellent scratch builds using some of the tools available. If they give a way a single model to a friend who converts it into something else I don't really see any issues  

As for the other stuff: If you can send it like last time that'd be good. I've also poked Warhead to hear if he can send the stuff he mentioned.

Just a few random thoughts about Photoshop ethics:

Normally I would restrict photoshopping of an image to an absolute minimum; usually just fixing color balance, brightness and touching up the occational paint chip.
Now, with NetEpic Gold I am collecting pictures from many different sources. Getting hold of painted pics of some of the more obscure units can be a bit tricky at times and obviously you'll try to include every picture you get in the book. However this also means that the image quality and color compositions sometimes get rather ecclectic.

While fiddeling about today I played about a bit to try and see how things would look if I tried to doctor the living c*** out of an image to make it fit in stylistically with some of the other Slaanesh units. As you can see in the example below it is possible to change just about everything (although this is porbably a bit overdone). Question is: Should I?

Photoshopping pictures happens everyday in the graphic business, but I've always felt there was a certain ethic when it comes to painted miniatures. Also I'm sure not everybody who are so kind to donate images would be entirely happy about me messing about with their work too much.

On the other hand it is rather satisfying to try and homogenize things so it doesn't look quite as much as though the images are from many different sources. ...and then again: They ARE from many different sources, so people might (and probably do) have a different sense of aesthetics than me, making it slightly rude of me to start changing things to fit my ideals.

I think 'shopping them to try and get consistent lighting and background is perfectly reasonable.  Tweaking the more stylistic elements I'm a bit more undecided...I can understand some may feel an afinity for their particular style of finish.

For any of my submitted photos feel free to photoshop the bazeebus out of them if yoiu need/want to
