Its come to my attention from numerous people contacting me that the organizations of the board for net epic has become confusing and cumbersome and some streamlining may be in order.

I would keep it simple and have two sections.

1. Net Epic Gold

For the discussion of the stock ruleset.

Since this is the stable "non-changing version" all new ideas and such should be in the other section.

2. Net Epic Alternate

This section will have two subsections:

Platinum: for the eventual development of that revision
General: Everything else.

I'd like input on this subject before I bother Cybershadow with the changes.

I don't see how what is proposed is any different than what it is now. Unless you would be splitting up the "Battle Reports" & "Epicenter" sub-forums between Gold and Alternative, which seems like it would create more confusion.

Could you please explain, in detail, exactly how the proposed reformat is different from what we have now?

The boards do need to be simplified and steamlined, yes.

The reason why it's confusing is because of all the sub boards and the fact that we are trying to deal with three different versions of NetEpic.

My suggestion is to have three sections.

Net Epic (Main board) - All topics for the current stable version here (all Gold topics in other words).
Net Epic Alternate - All topics for unofficial rules sets, alternative rule sets, or battle reports/army lists using these rules go here.
Net Epic Platinum - Same as alternate, but for all topics specifically relating to the platinum rules set (development of Gold).

All other sub boards are removed, and any relevant topics can be moved to one of the appropriate three remaining boards. I appreciate that creates a lot of topics to move. I'd be happy to step up as local moderator if more personnel would be needed to help Primarch with this.

I'd eliminate a lot of those sub-categories and just pin to a specific section important stuff like formula values to army lists.

I'm liking the most simple suggestion so far:

1. Net Epic
2. Net Epic Alternate

No sub-categories. All important threads would be pinned.

I think the Alternative one would see the most traffic though.

Having more traffic in one rather than the other is okay. The main thing is just to get the boards streamlined.

So you both want to remove the "The EPICenter" and "NetEpic Battle Reports" sub-forums? That seems counter productive, as those threads would then be lost among all of the others.

If that is the case, along with removing all other current sub-forums, I have to say that I'm opposed to the idea. I feel that eliminating the various sub-forums would actually create even more confusion, as all of the threads would be mixed in with other threads that really don't have anything to do with each other. If anything, I feel that more sub-forums would be helpful to help organize the threads better. Pinning "all important threads" would not help prevent confusion, as that could possibly be more threads than would fit on one page. A solid definition of "Important" would also have to be decided on.

That said, it is obvious that I'm outnumbered on this. I'll adjust to any changes that are made, but I feel that this is being done rashly and without due consideration.

Magnus, we already have that problem as things stand down.

For example, all battle reports are currently posted in the battle reports board. This is very unhelpful, because many of them are being played using different rule sets. We have battle reports using Gold, Platinum, and alternative rules.

When faced with a situation like that there are three options:

1. Remove the board entirely and move the threads to the appropriate board (e.g. Net Epic, Platinum, or Alternate). This does mean that a lot of threads could get buried and harder to find, but other than that the overall effect of streamlining the boards does outweigh that in all probability.

2. Ask everyone to tag their battle reports (e.g. Gold, Platinum, Alternate). This is great in theory, but in practice too many people won't follow the rules and so it won't happen. Of course, moderators could edit the topic titles to resolve this, so that's an option, providing the moderators are willing to do this.

3. Have a battle reports sub board for Net Epic, Alternate (Platinum). This would be viable if both steams had enough traffic to warrant the creation of a main board for Net Epic (current version) and Net Epic (alternate). Traffic is too low to warrant doing this though, in my opinion.

I understand what you're saying Magnus, and I empathise with a lot of it, so please don't think you're being outvoted. I'm more than happy to listen to counter arguments on this .

The real problem here is the fact that we have multiple sets of rules. If we just had Gold and stuck to that, we have kept the original structure from before the previous change. It's the desire to develop the rules that is causing all these problems. The trouble is, I'm outvoted on this issue, so it seems we're both going to have to compromise here in some way.

I don't think it matters how much or how little traffic each board gets (unless there are hardware or hosting restrictions I am unaware of) so long as a board highlights a specific niche that would otherwise be hard to identify from thread titles alone.

I would keep platinum under alternative for now, until it becomes a reality (which is probably several years off).

If no more commentary on this evolves by months end, I'll put some alternatives to a vote.
