I was just wondering about the sabre squadrons that are available in the space marine armylist for net epic 4. It says they are fitted with an autocannon in a turret, like the one on the predator. Now I happen to own the WD issue (#120) with the original article on converting 40K rhino and landraider parts to a sabre. The finished model (by tony cottrell, seen on pages 46-47) has the cannon mounted directly on the hull, like a real life WW2 tank destroyer type vehicle. So my question is, is there another version of the sabre than the one in WD 120? Has anyone of you guys scratch-built a sabre for epic? I would love to make a squadron myself...

Hi!
I have the same WD and that was my recollection as well. The net epic member who came up with it gave it a different "twist" and I think made models for it, although unfortunately he has no pictures yet.
I would think a rhino with a conversion for the hull gun would be relatively easy compared to doing a turret.

Im having a go at a sabre conversion modeled after the tony cottrell version. Im just gonna cut away the bolter and the right side frontal armour plate, and put a plastic cannon (from an old plastic sprue) on to it. I might be able to show you pictures when Im ready. I dont have a camera, but I do have a scanner (I heard those can be used for this purpose).

Hi!
Your conversion idea sounds like it will work, its quite simple. I would be very interested in seeing a picture or scan of it when done.

As soon as I saw Tony's in WD, I took 6 metal Rhinos & 6 40K IG Las-guns. Filed the end off at a 45 degree angle and super glued them on the front right hulls. It's Tony's copy of one of the many German WWII Assault Guns or Russian SU-85. Easy ...

One of my favorite things about the rhino chassis is that it is so easy to modify.
It seems as if every other vehicle in the imperium either used a Rhino chassis or technology from the STC Rhino.
I remember back when TL-1 and SM-1 that several White Dwarfs had Heavy Metal photos of Predators without side sponsons. In other words, they looked just like Sabres.

Yes, I have those old issues, they just put a small turret with a long gun tube on top of the Rhino. ?An idea of things to come. And as we all know with E-A, we will see a number of new versions of SM vehicles based on the new 40K models. ?We saw the new Rhino, on the Fanatic site, and the word is a new metal Land Raider, Land Speeder and most likey, the Razorback & Whirlwind, (hopefully) !!! ?And who knows what Forge World will do ?! ?With any luck we won't see what F/W did with the IG, make resin versions of the same thing G/W did in metal, with only minor modifications ... ?I'll buy'em anyway, you all can expect me to sell my extras here !!!

Redundancy is the key behind IG forces. That is why they are cool.
