@Zap: Land Speeder Storm is some sort of Transport version of the land speeder. Here is the blurb from the GW site:

Type: Vehicle (Fast, Skimmer, Open-topped)
Wargear: Heavy Bolter; Jamming beacon; Cerberus launcher
Transport Capacity: Five models (Scouts only)
Special Rules: Deep Strike; Scouts

hmm, another option would be to restrict it to scouts, raising the cost to 150, since scouts have no rhinos to swap. I have no idea what the jamming beacon or the cerberus launcher do, but one could let them do an infiltration move on normal movement rate I guess to simulate the beacon and deep strike

The Jamming Bacon causes Deep Striking units around the Land Speeder Storm to scatter more and orevents them to profit from Teleport Beacons, etc.
The Cerberus Launcher causes evry enem yunit assaulted by the Scouts of the Land Speeder Storm a malus on leadership tests for the duration of the close combat.

Did you playtest the LS Storm Sanjuro ?

It would be great if it was added to the Gold Astartes Rule Book. I should have the time to convert one and paint it before the september 7th.

Unfortunately we hadn't had a game since my last post. I hope there will be one next week, but that's not certain yet. I will post how it went here as soon as I have tried them out.

Can't wait to see your conversion, scream!

cheers sanjuro

Morning everyone,

glad to see the forum up and running again, CS!   (nice new emoticons, btw)

I finally had another match and was able to playtest the Land speeder Storm Detachment.

We played 4k points, Space Wolves vs. Imperial Guard. Wolves won in Turn 3, but it was a close call (49 vs. 39 VP).

I had one Land Speeder Storm detachment at 400 points (6 LS loaded with 6 Scouts), and since I was playing Space Wolves, the Wolf Scouts in the Det. had a CAF of +2.

The unit performed nicely and more or less behaved as I had hoped it would:

I put it on a flank with meagre enemy resistance and charged an objective on the enemies' side with them, where an IG Assault Platoon was stationed. I was countercharged by the IG colonel and his bodyguard in Chimeras. The fight was quick and bloody and resulted in both original units broken. I failed my morale roll (IG didn't) and so I had to retreat. In turn 2 I send in a Thunderhawk loaded with Blood Claws to clear up the rest. (most of the battlefield covered by those pesky Hydras anyway, so there was nowhere else to go...). In Turn 3 the LS Storm Det. routed and was therefore able to get back the objective on my side, where a lonesome Commissar on his bike had taken his post.

The best part of the whole operation was that the IG commander got nervous about this flank and sent in his Marauder Destroyers to clear it. I guess that was his big mistake, since as a Marine player (and moreso Space Wolves player, nothing has more than 50cm range) you cannot really do anything against these flying fortresses, and I was worried all the time to have these Monsters all over the main part of my army in the city located at the other flank  :)

To sum, up:

The LS Storm Detachment with the rules we came up with here is a nice unit to draw the enemies' attention to a quiet flank; either he puts some more troops to it or it is yours. Problem for you is that it will get broken very fast, which gives the opponent 4 VP. So it is definitively something for bigger battles (4000 points or more). Both me and my friend thought it's a nice addition to the Marine army list. I am eager to hear from other Marines who would try them out!

cheers

sanjuro

Thanks for the playtest and the feedback Sanjuro :)

On my side, I just converted one E:A LS into a storm one. I wanted it to be painted for the Gold Edition but I did not find the time to paint it.

Ooh! That's a really nice conversion Scream  :)

Too bad it didn't make it in time, but unfortunately we just have to put a deadline down at some point and say "done" so we can move on with the other books :)

I wanted it to be painted before the deadline but did not manage to finish it in time :/ I totally agree with the deadline terms, we waited too long for the new books  :agree:

Possibly. The files are fairly large (they need to be for print) so they'll probably be uploaded in some tacticalwargames.net folder and then linked both to the forum and Wiki. But CS knows more about that so we need to work out the details first. Once the books are done we're going to give the EpiCentre.org a huge overhaul and have the files available there as well.

great conversion Scream!  :agree:

A pity that making 6 of them would be quite expensive. Hopefully, a certain swimming rodent gets interested :)

Thanks :)

Luckily, I has some extra E:A LS and enough bolters to mount on the 6 needed for the LS Storm card. I may find the time to complete 5 more in a few weeks.
