Post subject:  Microworld Heroquest (pics back up!)

A bit more then a week ago I got this crazy idea in my head to build a Heroquest travel set in 6mm, fully magnetised.
So i sent an email to Steven Salotti over at Microworld Games and asked if he would make a special Heroquest pack for me as I only needed a few of each type of figure.
Got a reply the same day saying "no problem" and "which minis would I like?"
So here's what I ended up ordering:

8 Orcs (orc warriors)

6 Goblins (goblin warriors)

3 Fimir (dread ogers?)

4 Chaos Warriors ( Alliance Destroyers)

1 Chaos Warlock ( dark alliance command sorcerer )

1 Gargoyle (minotaur lord)

4 Skeletons (skeleton spearmen)

2 Zombies ( zombies or ghouls)

2 Mummies (wraiths ?)

1 Barbarian ( alliance barbarian)

1 Dwarf (dwarf berserker)

1 Elf (wood elf hero)

1 Wizard (wood elf sorcerer)

As you can see I had to make some allowances as certain models were not available and I had to pick something that would feel similar.
On the other hand at $13.50 USD for all the minis shipping USA to Belgium included, I don't really mind buying more later if anything better should pop up ;D
They arrived 4 days!!! after I ordered them. 8)

While waiting for the minis to arrive I started work on the board.
I cut the tiles out of a piece of magnetic paper and glued them onto another piece of magnetic paper.

then I painted it using sponges for the larger areas and a size 0 brush for the details.

I also managed to finish about half of the furnishings

16 open doors
5 closed doors
6 secret doors

Image

2 double square cave in tiles
8 one square cave in tiles
1 set of stairs
6 pit traps
1 wizard's work table
2 ordinary tables
3 treasure chests
12 skull tokens

Well that's it for now, I must say I'm a bit torn between building the rest of the board first or getting stuck in to those lovely miniatures.
More to follow as and when I finish them.

Awesome! I remember playing heroquest when I was a kid, it was a great game.

Shame the demons weren't ready yet, there are some in there that would be a great stand-in for the gargoyle.

That is fantastic. Did you cut out the magnetic squares so that you can change things around, or just for the effect it gives? Where did you get those pieces like the treasure chest and the table? They look like they're almost in the right scale for 6mm, and I don't remember the Heroquest stuff being that small.

I assume you're adding little magnets to each mini base so that it sticks to the magnetic sheets.

I'm going to put a punt on them being handmade! Looks like a labour of love!

@ bertnernie & Alf O'Mega

Everything was indeed handmade, don't know if I'd call it a labour of love so much as a compulsion to build once I get an idea in my head.
I cut the squares both for the way it looks and because the magnetic paper sticks best black side against black.
All the minis and furnishings are also based on pieces of magnetised paper, I can hold the board upside down without anything falling of. Not sure bout the minotaur lord though, he's a big boy :-)
