Post subject:  Zombies and Ghouls

Hi everyone,

I have ordered lots of the new ghouls and zombies and I am looking for painting inspiration. I wondered if anyone had had a go at painting them yet. I don't normally use washes on 6mm figs but was thinking of pale flesh colour for the ghouls with a watered down wash of blue. Any thoughts? Has anyone used washes on there 6mm ? Does it work? Similarly not sure what to do painting wise with the Zombies either any suggestions (within reason) welcome

What i was thinking, is you could wash the ghouls with green and then drybrush an offwhite heavily and then white very very lightly to add depth. With the zombes you could wash a mix of brown/blue/green, not mixxed together but mostly brown with some blue and green added after in small spots to look like rotting and discolored flesh. drybrushing similar to the ghouls. and then adding the details in.

I used rotting flesh as a base coat for the whole fig, then washed it with the normal camo "green" wash over the whole fig. Was thinking of doing some in normal flesh with a red or blue or purple wash, and then some with palid witch flesh and a light blue wash as well to add variety to the decompose of the zombies. Also used nurgles rot on a few which i liked.

Something I found when painting 28mm figs(which I hope translates) is that you can do ghouls in a reddish purple base, then a grey with pale blue highlight, or even mix in a bit of dead flesh. You then can wash it with a flesh tone.

OK, looking at that it looks weird. Maybe I should re-check my colours and post a pic.

Another thing I like to do with painting undead is to do one light, simple base colour and then a lot of washes to get it where I want. I tend not to highlight undead very much, as it makes them look murkier.

I have never really been able to use washed to their full effect. For me at least, I find things come out better when I start dark and then just highlight up. Lately I have been trying washes to save time though.
