Post subject:  Suggestion for a starter SOB list?
Hey there,

Some time ago there was a project with the aim to create a starter army list for every possible force out there. That monumental task was never done and scrapped around 2010. Neithertheless I am asking for just that thing:

A simple, fluffy 2000 points SOB list without much cheese tailored for starters. Ideally including upgrades to make a 3000 point list.

I have experience with Imperial Guard, Necrons and Marines but frankly speaking, I have no fffin' clue what formations are absolutely necessary, fluffy, cheesy or plain stupid. And I don't want the list for myself, but for a fellow gamer in my club. He has never played the game but wants to. I have very little time at the moment, but I also don't want to skip this opportunity to introduce the game to him. List construction takes a very long time, especially when you have no idea what the units are, where there powers and weaknesses are etc.

Can you, fellow wargamers, provide me with a list? Or a guideline for SOB forces which make the opponent sobbing? (haha, classic)

Firstly, I'd recommend using my Adeptus Ministorum list, as it's the most up to date (and only active) Sisters list.

For a balanced 2000 points list, I'd look at something like:

Adepta Sororitas Mission (8 Battle Sisters) 225
--- Transport (4 Rhinos) 40

Retributor Ministry (6 Retributors) 250
--- Transport (1 Immolator, 3 Rhinos) 60

Seraphim Choir (6 Seraphim) 225

Repentia Confessional (6 Sisters Repentia + Mistress) 250
--- Transport (3 Repressors) 90

Exorcism Battalion (5 Exorcists) 250
Hunter 50

Redemptionist Crusade (10 Redemptionists) 150

Penitent Atonement (4 Penitent Engines) 250

Lightning Squadron (2 Lightning Attack Fighters) 150

I'd agree with zombo's suggestions for list selection using his list, which is good fun to use.

As for a guideline in their use I tend to use a few activations to bait my opponent's forces forward then set up a turn 2 assault with my heavy hitter firefight units, which in the above list you have quite a few, doing your best to set up so they can mutually support each other when you engage.

The repentia & penitents tend to scare people which can easily be used to distract your opponent from equally dangerous assault units eg Sisters missions & retributors.
