Hi , i was wondering if anyone had experimented with rules at a higher operational level . I was thinking along the lines of making up stats for Modern Spearhead . Epic plays well at at battlegroup level but i think it would give a better feel for the 40k universe fielding multiple battalions rather than just the one. ![]() |

Wouldn't multiple battalions require an enormous playing area and a Primarchload of minis? ![]() |

A division is anywhere around 8,000-20,000 troops depending on army, era, etc. That's a lot of Epic Minis ! ![]() |

Not if you assume a 1:50 miniature-soldier ratio.... |

Yes. The Modern Spearhead set is a very nice rules set, and scales the representation down. It wouldnt require any more minis really. It is not really my thing, as I as close to one-to-one representation as possible, but it is an interesting idea and I would like to see this working. |

The Marine Corps divisions are closer to 60,000, counting all the support personnel. Of course, there are only 4 divisions in the whole corps, and one of them is the reserves. |

That's what I started to do a while ago. I codenamed the project Hammer Head. It never got past the brainstorming stage but if you want to compare ideas I'm all for it. ![]() |

I think you wanna play something like World In Flames then! EDIT: Would actually be cool to have a Epic Armageddon board game with as huge a span as WIF! |

To Mojorn Piett; Aye, i would very much like to see what you have come up with. There is more data on the army structure at higher levels with the Imperials than any of the other Epic armies so is that the best place to start. I imagine it would be easier to do the structure first ,and then do the stats. In Modern Spearhead armies use the battalion as the normal combat formation on the table , but as battalions don't exist in Epic i will assume the best thing to do is split IG Regiments and SM Chapters into battalion sized formations. For example, A SM chapter has 10 companies . The 6th , 7th , 8th , and 9th companies are held in reserve or provide vehicle crews for support companies ( Land Raiders , Whirlwinds , Hunters , etc.) So the 1st , 2nd and 3rd companies would might form the 1st battalion .A stand would be a platoon , so as there are 3 platoons to a company . That might be ; 1 BHQ stand (Terms) 3 stands of Terminators (1st coy) 6 stands of tacticals.(2 ad hoc Coys) 10 stands for the first battalion! 2nd Battalion 1 BHQ stand 3 stands of Assault Marines (ad hoc Coy) 3 stands of Devastators (ad hoc Coy) 3 stands of Scouts.(10th company) 10 stands for the 2nd battalion ! Its possible to field an entire chapter in only 2 battalions at this level. Normally an MSH force would be around 10 battalions so the balance would probably be IG battalions....no? Looking forward to seeing your ideas. ![]() |

Yes ... that could work on that scale. Normally a Div. is 9-10 Bns ... |

Aye , thats what i thought. The IG could be 4 -6 battalions each of 3 companies , each with 4 platoons , giving a battalion strength of ; 1 BHQ stand and 12 IG platoons totalling 13 stands And luckily the same size as an E:A platoon. And 4-6 battalions representing an entire Regiment. Thes battalions will end up being much larger when we add in support weapons , recce , tanks , flak and Arty. I know IG Tank Regiments exist but am unsure as to their structure .Are they 10-20 Companies like the infantry regiments ? |

There are usually 3-6 Cos. per Bn, and 3-4 Bns to Rgt or Bde. ?And 3-4 Rgts/Bdes to a Div. ?Infantry and Tank Bns/Rgts are generally organized the?same ... |
