Hi Guys,

2nd Ed Space Marine was the first game I ever bought, and I am understandably nostalgic about it.  I have recently been given the boxed set game, and some explansions, but I'm lacking the actual rules set - Does anyone have a spare they could sell/give me?! Or is there a pdf version out there in the aether?

Please let me know!

They are all 2nd edition = epic space marine/titan legions.

They are all official, and can be used in any game except for those ending with "cj" - those are all from citidel journal, and while cool, they are not "official" though my club uses them as such.

Since my last post i have started sorting through the old models, cards, etc and started divvying up the old models.  The plan of attack is simple - make up thos edetachments I can from existing models, buy a few specific things to make the forces work a bit better and dispose of the spares!

First up are the Eldar - I have enough to make an Eldar Warhsot (18 stands of infantry and 9 falcons), a guardian detachment (6 bases and 3 falcons), 3 detachments of dreadnoughts (had 10 plastic and have a bid ongoing for two metal ones) and thats it.  What I would like to get my hands on is a warlock/farseer stand with a falcon and something a bit more heavyweight to take on the orks and marines who have far more stuff than the eldar (hence why I'm doing them first!).

So can anyone help me getting hold of some warlocks and suggest an army card/formation to give them a bit more fire power?

I'll try and post some pictures soon....

Personally, I consider Titans a must have, especially Revenants. They're worth their weight in gold.

Could ELdar take Revenants in 2nd Ed Space Marine?

Absolutely-  Revenants were added late  (WD #186 )
but are still very much a part of (and legal in) 2nd ed-
The problem with Revenants is they are hard to find,
especially at a reasonable price (Still looking to add four, myself)!!

I would say the 'must have' unit is a pair of Wave Serpents,
Wave Serpents carrying a unit of either:
Exarchs, Banshees, Harlequins or Scorpions (IMO: Harlequins are Best).
It's a solid eldar tactic, perhaps the strongest one they have

(*note that Wave Serpents design change between 2nd eds 'Floating Iron'
http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery....ent.jpg
and 3rd & 4th ed's vaguely Heart-shaped version
http://www.craftworldgames.co.uk/p....C+ELDAR
is quite radical; make a conscious choice as to which you want! )

Next; definitely the Revenant squad, or
a Tempest Heavy Tank, eventually leading to a Company-
Actually: these are as good as Wave Serpents;
whichever one you find first i suppose-

I'd also seriously consider adding  some squads of Aspect Warriors;
One or More of the aforementioned Close Combat experts in your Serpents,
but also Dark Reapers for the punch; Spiders if you  can find 'em.
Less needed would be the Dragons, Avengers, or Hawks

These are not as important in larger games,
but in smaller games are suprisingly useful-
And for an Eldar Army, a flavour essential. Likewise: Get an Avatar!!!
Cheap to purchase, Free points cost, & Fun (especially in smallish games)--

A Doomweaver unit is good fun, but can be added later; much later.
The prism cannon is almost an after thought (except in -very- small games)-
Ditto the Warp Hunter; they can wait-
(although the WH is great against Orcs & IG, it's very, very Random)

A -lot- depends on the size of game you are  playing;
in a 500 point game, a Prism Cannon is more cost effective than a Tempest
(although neither are as good as a Wave Serpent or a Revenant)
Also important to consider: Availability and Price (goes without saying, I know).

In the US; ChaosOrc is an okay place to find stuff (at about High eBay price):
http://www.chaosorc.com/index.php?cPath=83_40_63
In the UK; CraftWorld Games has quite good service & decent selection:
http://www.craftworldgames.co.uk/p/cate ... 449-Eldar/

If you are only adding specific single bitz & units,
its probably worth getting them from such a re-seller;
EBay generally works better if you are expanding your army significantly at one go;
I'd say about £50.00 GBP /$80.00 USD is about the efficient cross-over point.

One more random point, Just FYI:
NetEpic is essentially an 'edited' version of 2nd edition;
the points costs were slightly adjusted & standardized,
and a few rules tweaks were added to enhance playability.
It is worth looking at eventually, if/as your games get bigger-

Regarding the Revenant:

It may clear up some small confusion to mention that
the Second Ed Revenant looked like this:

and not the current E:A "knight" Revenant:

Thanks for the advice! I think I would like to get a tempest or revenant, depends somewhat on the cards I can get hold of too!

You have plastic revenants? :)

I have the 2nd edition revenant rules scanned and uploaded to my secret epic stash here:
http://www.drunkdwarves.com/files....ans.pdf

Revenants are awesome.  Thier pulse lasers are very similar to the phantom titan version, only shorter in range by 25cm, and hitting on a 3 instead of a 2.  The effect is the same though: 1d3 -2 hits per shot!  So for the cost of a single phantom, who could be armed with 2 pulsars, you can get 2 revenants sporting 4!

And they are just as durable as thier big brother, sporting the same holo fields.  But they are harder to hit because of their speed - all shooting at them suffers a -1 to hit, so in some respects they are even tougher to kill than phantoms!

I usually take 2 cards worth.  4 titans, 8 pulsars, 1200 points.

I'm also a big fan of the wind rider host.  It's the best deal in the game outside of titan groups.  1,100 points worth of jetbikes and vypers for 650!  I usually get two.  Bikes are great at snatching objectives, and are great at close combat.

Deacon:
just found the Index for your 'secret stash':
Awesome!!!

One more comment regarding 'old' vs.'new' Revenant Sculpts:
I favor the 'Old' sculpts as Revenants (hard to find though they may be!)
mostly Because the 'New' Revenants are just Too Perfect
as Exodite Baron/Lord Knights.

Oddly enough;
It looks like the original edition Revenants
(hard to find though they may be!)
are -still- cheaper than the current edition/knights....

Thanks Volstagg

If anyone is interested - check out my stash of epic 2nd edition scans:
http://www.drunkdwarves.com/files/epicpdfs/

Included is every single unit introduced in white dwarf, as well as a few citadel journal units and rules.

Check out the assault rules if you want a truly intense game - assault games are always awesome!

I'm working on getting all the rule books scanned also - but this is obviously a much bigger task.  My goal is to preserve these works in digital formats.

Enjoy!
